I don't think a language should need to bĕ general purpose to qualify as a programming language. As far as issuing layout instructions to web browsers, it's pretty solid wrt to execution.

HTML/TeX/etc are real programming languages that just happen to be declarative as opposed to imperative.

Nominal typing was a premature optimization. Product types should be structural and row polymorphic. And if they had been, dynamically typed languages nevdr would've needed to exist and wouldn't have waited so long to smuggle types back onto their data structures. That said, i'm kinda glad shell scripting languages exist.
