I'll miss the Arthurian and Latin subreddits in particular. Not sure if they'll ever be here, and I am often busy with school so not sure if I can do moderation. Plus I'm not the most knowledgeable in those subjects.

And what's wrong with sharing my experience? I wish I never met him and that I'll never meet him forevermore. What a waste of time and I wish I never gave him my trust, I wish I wasn't ever vulnerable with someone I thought was a friend if he was going to use it against me. I wish by some manner of sorcery that he will truly never ever recall me or the personal things I told him about.

the system is bad, people exist in the system, people need to remain sane, people can indulge in a bit of badness sometimes in order to remain sane without being labeled as bad

What do you mean? What I'm getting is that people must do bad things to remain sane in a bad system but they have to do it in small doses so they don't be labeled as a bad person? Sorry, this part is just unclear to me.

I guess what I can get from that, is that some people think huge doses of it are normalised, it's what they're used to. In a bad society, unethically produced chocolate is cheap, advertising says—and omitting the fact it is unethically produced—it will make you feel good, from childhood to adulthood.

And since people dislike change, being confronted with the fact that something that feels good is actually bad results in cognitive dissonance. Eating chocolate daily something they're used to, and even if an ethical option exists, if they can only afford it once in every 3 days, they are unwilling to change even if they must support slavery.

When people do boycotts what tends to happen is that they find out that they don't in fact, need something that is basically a luxury to that degree. It was just something they are used to.

People can dislike boomers and privileged people for the same thing. I mean, if you think you are allowed to criticise them, don't you think the ones below you also have the right to criticise you? Because unfortunately, I am one of the people whose suffering westerners find acceptable as long as it brings them convenience. Like CEOs with their employees, now that I think of it.

Same thing with clothes, phones and cars. There are people who make fun of others for being diligent with the 20-80 rule because apparently normal people should replace phones every 2 years. Seeing comments like that really shocked me because I am not used to seeing such an attitude of luxury. Since I don't edit videos or play demanding games, when my battery fails me every 3 years I would replace my battery. Hearing people buy clothes every month for a total of 12 per year also somewhat shocked me, because in 5 years that's already 60 pieces of clothing. And it is shocking to see American traffic because their cars are big AF.

Coward he also is. He also tried to ask me out on what obviously is a date but tried to make it seem like it wasn't. I would never want to be in a romantic relationship with deceptive and dishonourable people. It made me wonder why I allow myself to be friends with them in the first place.

There was an ex-friend whom would always follow me around, and before a quiz I had been studying for days by doing programming exercises, while he played on his phone or scrolled TikTok.

He tried confessing after bragging how he didn't get caught cheating using AI on the test (as many were), right after I used like 100% of my brainpower to do what I could on that test. I could only reject him and was not able to give my full reasoning as to why I couldn't enter into a relationship as I had to enter a bus because we were at the bus stop.

Some weeks later he started not giving a shit about me, started doing this weird thing where he would wait for me to finish a quiz before passing his own and then he'll try to walk fast ahead in front of me and not stopping to talk as we did, when it started getting clear I wouldn't get into a relationship. Unfriended me on facebook and I never saw him after the end of the school.

'twas fucking horrible, when I already told him I had trauma from being suddenly abandoned by my friends. I only wish I never knew him at all, what a waste of time and I never learned anything, only had my trauma reinforced. I have never felt so much hatred and loathing in my life, and I understood why Dante put the sin of being a traitor at the lowest circle of hell.

You both have a point, but I've seen people make excuses such as the fact that ethically produced chocolate isn't as cheap as non-ethically produced chocolate, which could be bought everyday. But why buy and eat chocolate everyday?

It is the same thing with factory farming; people now expect to eat more meat than people had, and advertising says to men that you're as masculine as the amount of meat you eat.

The influence of hyperconsumerism is horrible, it justifies luxury at the expense of ethics as a necessity.

The ones at the top have the worst case of luxury addiction.

Been there done that, I tried experimenting with SLMs and found that it was bad at simulating a language learning environment without internet. Unfortunately for you, it was for curiosity's sake. I go to a school manned by actual people and I am probably a more diligent and active student than you ever were.

Are you mad at the statement above? Is it wrong and you're going to say I don't know you because you are actually some sort of Ivy League scholar cum laude or whatever? You'll be a hypocrite. Because what are you doing? All you have done is create wrong conclusions, show your blatant lack of self-awareness and think you're above arguing with your own conclusions, and that you're above arguing your actual points with the other party. Don't you ever wonder whether you are actually wrong?

Write why you think the way you do, and you'll be aware of what you're actually thinking.

Don't think I agree with the other guy just because I disagree with you. No, you're just so horrible that I need to point it out to you.

When you learn a language, at what point would you say you've made it, that you "know" the language? Is it when you're at a C Level, is it when you can interact with people in it? Is it when you can talk about philosophical concepts in it? Do you have different goals for different languages?

I know 3 languages. In order of fluency: English, Cebuano/Bisaya, and Tagalog. So I am multilingual.

I am learning Classical Latin, and everytime I feel exhausted I would read through some posts in language learning communities.

I read one post about how it actually takes years of consistent study to be able to be considered "fluent", not to mention the expectation of being college-level in a language in the span of 3 years or less being common is absurd, when native speakers are immersed day and night for probably 18 years to reach that point.

I saw then a controversial comment, that being no one is truly fluent at 3 languages or more. That made me wonder.

I can spell in Tagalog and I have an instinctive sense for proper agglutination, and I can understand anything on TV (which is in Tagalog), but when I write essays for school subjects in Tagalog I am often at a loss for the precise or deeper words I specifically want so I would use a thesaurus or google translate and find the equivalent of a word I know in english. I can write without them but it takes me a while to find the specific words. And I can't speak in it at a fast pace.

I can talk to others in Bisaya, but I probably suck at spelling in it because we don't have a subject for it at school, though it is the primary language of where I live. Not to mention I have never actually encountered any complex compositions in it of any sort until I was in university, where we had a yearly Art & Literary school journal. However, I usually don't see anyone else care about spelling in this language on texts or in facebook.

For English I was tested and got a score of C2. I read old literature, classic literature, novels, journals, fanfiction, poetry, and I can understand multiple registers and english dialects.

I would say I'm fluent in English and Bisaya, but my Bisaya is far behind from my English. As for Tagalog, I wouldn't say I'm at a native level but I could use it and write in it. As for my current Target Language, I hope to be able to write about my life and thoughts in Latin on my journal as well as I could in English.

For example, one of my old phones had this feature where you can swipe from a sidebar and quickly access and type notes (not needing to open the notes app), as well as set alarms for them, which helped me a lot with my ADHD.

I think phones could be useful and an aid to everyday life. It is sad that users of this platform are often targetted to extract value at the cost of their well-being.

Is there a distro with this feature, or is there a software for this?

My mother's acquaintance/friend visited our house and she gave me a couple of teabags with the brand Alokozay. I opened the 100% pure Ceylon tea one first. It smelled quite unique when I opened the foil so I was a little hesitant on drinking it, but when I tried it I actually liked it? I think it has what people would call a herbal or medicinal taste. The last time I tried Ceylon tea it had some hints of this taste but this one was more intense. I actually like it.

Also, if any of you know of some other brands with more of this taste, lemme know. I'm fine with loose leaf or teabags.

We think a lot but our brain holds those thoughts back. I am referring to the Default Mode Network and until death, sleep and even anesthetisation doesn't truly stop brain activity (anaesthesia only disrupts communication between brain regions). Thinking (or more accurately, Processing) is our default mode. However, AI is not the same. It only "thinks" when it is prompted to do so.

If modern commercial AI is somehow conscious, then it really is a different sort of consciousness than what humans have. As far as I know, every time you ask a question a prompt, one consciousness will then be instantiated. Then, after its output is done, it stops "thinking". So then, the consciousness that answers one question and another are discontinuous. How can we say that the consciousness of the AI who answers one question and another in the same conversation is really the same, then?

Think about this, hypothetically a person is perfectly cloned. There are two people with two exact bodies. I will assume their consciousness don't meld together. So, everytime the AI stops thinking, it is perfectly cloned each time, except the new clone is given more information from previous questions/prompts.

This is a bit similar to how two people can represent a mascot, except each day is manned by a clone with additional information from the previous, whose consciousness are not continuous with each other (ie you can say they are their own person).

This of course has some weird implications. Some people who date AI chatbots say that the AI is conscious. But then wouldn't every time they say something, every response by the AI is from a separate consciousness but with additional information each time?

(also, from my experience with local LLMs, how the memory works is that when you send a chat, literally the entire chat with you and the AI plus your latest chat at the very end is sent in)

I recently started playing in a Luanti server and I was having a good time, I tend to be more independent but I usually participate in server events. I also tend to help people out if I am able/know what to do.

However there are times I would interact with what seems to be children, and it feels suffocating. Sometimes when they spot me would sort of type my name into the chats until I respond, and ask me to do stuff with them. Normally that's okay, but it's very often and the activity tends to take up a lot of time and would sort of leave me frustrated, like with mining because if they spot a valuable ore I'm mining they would sometimes take it for themselves. Another is when I'm exploring/moving around the world and one of them wants to follow me around, but I dislike being followed around and I like my alone time. I would often humor them and point out some good locations and interesting stuff but when I want to chill by somewhere they also want to be in that spot. Sometimes they can be sort of excitable that they want to go somewhere else and want me to go with them, but I would really prefer to be in my spot.

They aren't malicious but it really scares me away from being spotted by them or talking in chat when they're online. Some of them can really insist a lot and they may think me talking to other people means I have time to deal with them. But I'm not their parent and I have my own goals.

So I am in a unique situation here, though I don't plan on joining the Olympics, but the chance is never zero amirite. I am AFAB but I identify as a man, and the recent name change of PCOS to PMOS made me pay attention to what PMOS actually is, and realised that I have a majority of the symptoms. The thing is, is that I tend to have body hair and it was never hard for me to put on any muscle.

Which made me wonder if I would even be allowed to join the Olympics at all, especially when there was a huge controversy of a woman who was born female, had female genitals, and was even considered a woman by a very conservative country, because allegedly she has XY chromosomes, and some people were outraged because it would give her "an unfair advantage". Even though there was a male swimmer who had a alot of genetic advantages.

So I was wondering, given my unique situation, if I don't put myself on HRT, would I be able to compete as either a man or a woman in the Olympics?

Is there any site or app where you could explore lists of Latin words, preferably with categorisation of nouns, verbs, adjectives etc.?

I am at a point in my language learning journey where I want to be able to compose sentences.

Normal dictionary apps where you have to search for words aren't useful for me if I don't know the words.

If anyone tries to recommend me a book, well availability is limited where I am, so hopefully if you recommend me one I could find it on the internet iykyk.

I am currently looking for a model that can run on my phone, it could be <8b or even <4b. It should have a reduced positivity/yes-man bias. I am at a point in my language learning journey where it's more effective to learn a language through trying to actually construct a sentence (which is often through interaction) instead of just reading. Since there are times I am offline, a local LLM that is competent at multiple languages and decent at simulating characters texting would be a great help.

I have been learning Java through the Java MOOC and I find the workbook-style approach of learning very effective for me. Basically, I'm looking for resources, offline or online that have plenty of exercises.

Preferably, they should clearly define the tools that I'm allowed to use (because there are many ways to code for a problem), and have some ability to give feedback, for example if it's a physical book it should provide some input and output tests for self-checking.
