I have a friend who lives in South Carolina and they have it BAD. Nobody is hiring, most of the listings are fake, stupid ai personality tests that randomly reject you. They've been out of work for months as not even 'beginner' positions are open.

US, central, it's okay out here. I have to travel to 3 different towns for work and gas just hit $5 a gallon, so the margins are getting slimmer. There's jobs available but you gotta know people, and they don't pay great. Food security isn't a huge issue as I live near many farms, it feels like 2022 but instead of any ups, it's only going down

Usually is, current senate race in the state has some chances cause it's Ricketts (R) vs Osborne (I). And ricketts is like, REALLY hated, Osborne is trying to distance himself from both parties which imo is a smart move in nebraska

I cut my parents off 6 years ago and have never been better without someone.

Mine were extremely abusive and completely refused to accept the fact that I'm trans, so as soon as I was able to, I cut them off

Me and my fiancee tried color matching some foundation to me. I don't usually wear makeup because I have some pretty messy hobbies and it would get splattered with oil and dirt or whatevs. We used the skin tone on the bottom of my wrist as it's the lightest part of my arms.

When we got the color home and tried it that shit was so orange, like mar-a-lago face level of orange (It was rough explaining that to her). But when I looked closer in the mirror I realized that my whole face is like, super fair and pale compared to the rest of my body and I think I know why.

I drive a convertible with the top down a lot, but I also wear hats and big sunglasses so my face is always shaded. I tan super well but I never went out of my way to tan my face skin. Like my body skin is probably golden / warm and my face is pretty fuckin pale, this complicates things a bit...

So i went to the bathroom earlier, and when i sat down my toilet seat broke in half. I was like, shit, okay, need a new toilet seat.

So I run off to the only place open at the time (Walmart) and as I'm getting out of the car I see an acquaintance sitting there with the hood open on their car, he's disabled and quite old so he isn't able to get it going. I work on cars as a hobby and I took the chance to catch up with him and try to help him out.

There were 2 other guys there as well, some skinny guy, and another one who was a retired mechanic but didn't work on this style of car. So we crack at it for about 30 minutes, can't figure it out, it has a new starter, a new alternator, and a brand new battery, all 3 replaced last month by his nephew, so I tell him that if we can't get his car running I'll drive him and his wife home to get them out of the cold. The 2 guys have to leave to pick up their kids, the mechanic gives me his number and says he'll be back with a dually and a trailer, and I quickly go inside the stor to get the toilet seat.

When I finished buying the seat I go and try some other stuff to see if we can get it to start. The issue is that the starter wasn't even trying to engage, it would crank if we jumped it but that would trip the anti-theft and prevent it from sparking. I'm no stranger to weird electrical problems so, while chatting with him, I pluck around the wiring loom, and notice a wire is a bit pulled out, I push it into the connector, reach around the steering wheel, and the car starts no problem (Wire was most likely the key_crank signal imo but I didn't want to mess with it much further atm).

He gives me his thanks and I tell him to take it to a shop tomorrow so they can fix the harness correctly, it was raining at this point so I wanted him to get home first thing.

Anyway I call the retired mechanic up and tell him he doesn't have to come back down as I got the car running. He lights up, tells me he's impressed that someone young was willing to stay and help, and actually get the thing going, and that I used reassuring language to help calm them down when they were (obviously) having a pretty bad time.

Turns out he owns a fairly large construction company in the area, told me to call him back if I need anything, and he invited me to a gathering he's hosting out at the nearby lake with a bunch of other business owners... So I just accidentally made an influential friend? Started because my fat ass broke my toilet seat????

IDK, was a very unique day

I got super lucky at a U-pull-it and found a 100% complete exact match for my car, it was at the lot cause it got front-end totaled. But everything I needed was interior and convertible related. (unfortunately it wasn't leather so the seats were worthless to me) My current regulators were super busted and I had 2 windows held up by zip-ties

Borrowed a friend and ripped the thing apart, and when it got cooler last night I swapped all the new regulators in. This car is special and a new regulator is like $350, so getting all 4 w/ a new cloth top for only $200 was a steal, it just needs some repairs but the cloth is in WAY better shape than the one that's on there atm.

The hardest part was getting the windows lined up correctly, first issue was fitting the glass to the sleds, I kept my original glass cause the tinting is different, they have to be installed out of the car, but need to be aligned while installed. After doing that there's a whole process with setting 3 different standoffs in a Stewart platform like arrangement. until it puts slight pressure on the seals both in front of and behind the glass.

And then there was the front left window, which didn't need the whole regulator, but the track it mounts too... at least I thought.

After installing the new track I noticed the entire mechanism flexes about 1/4" side-to-side when moving. And upon closer inspection, the nylon bushings that ride on the tracks are completely wore out on the new-to-me and old ones. At least the window works now though.

But it paid off and now I don't look stupid driving down the road with 2 rear windows jutting out when converted.

Next is replacing the hydraulic lifts with linear actuators and a brain. Those cursed Chrysler cylinders fail so often it was a miracle this one worked for the 2 months before a seal exploded and filled the back seats with stinky goo

This thing was sitting out for 3 years under a tree, it's gotten the full cleaning treatment, some engine work, and an hour drive to get a sensor for the transmission (thank god it worked).

Luckily when I was ready to leave all the windows got stuck down and I had to spend 8 hours rebuilding every single regulator and nightmare steel wire hell wheel so I wouldn't get rained on. I curse whoever decided unflexible untreated steel wire was great for moving windows up and down.

At least it drove me home today

Retry at drawing the girl from a few days ago, but this time with better face hopefully. Her favorite drink is Malort and her favorite food is Surstromming. I swear to god that would be a BJ from hell, not including lacerations and pain.

Wow the weather is beautiful outside
