Only just saw this now because there's only a small indicator of replies. You always see whom being cynical about switching to smaller alternatives? I've personally been doing that forever. I can't speak for all of Nova Scotia though...

I'm not so sure that monetary figure is actually that vast. Breaking contracts? Yeah, I would imagine there would be a financial penalty for that.

https://lemmy.ca/u/loremnop This is why I am starting a venture on Linux and FOSS (free & open source software). I'm also in Nova Scotia, and this is where I'll be based. At least for now. I also used Linux in the early 2000s, and it's time it becomes normalized. Even back then it was workable, as your experience demonstrates, and now there are several beginner friendly distros.

At the new Halifax Repair Cafés, I'm known as the Linux Lady. The next one is Sept 20th at Keshen Goodman Library, from 10AM to 2PM.

Yeah same in the Maritimes. Going from Halifax to Montréal, aside from the expense, is brutally slow along one track in New Brunswick because CN haven't maintained the tracks. Because they don't move freight anymore, from what I understand.
