it was very common among nude models back in the day because it was easier to retouche the fanny. the worst thing about it is the hypocrisy.
that's Lynch magic for ya - film proper or a deleted scene - hits like a motherfucker. I for one prefer the pilot version of Mulholland Drive because it literally goes nowhere but just keeps on piling on world establishing to an absurd degree - jenga style. Inland Empire later fully implement this approach within finite storytelling and it is absolutely majestic.
the old extended universe (the Lucas era) was very diverse and quite adventurous.
There is Zahn's Heir of the Empire series about Admiral Thrawn coming back from his Star Trek mission to outer worlds and kicking New Republic's ass so hard it wasn't even funny - gold standard basically - should've been sequel trilogy if the world was fair.
Then there is Shadows of the Empire - the midquel set between Episodes 5 and 6 - one of the early glimpses into Star Wars underworld and Palpatine's involvement with space mafia.
Kevin J Anderson's Jedi Academy is basically sequel trilogy as god intended - it's about Luke reestablishing the Jedi Order and the many challenges he faces. There's also my personal fave I, Jedi by Michael Stackpole who did the X-Wing series which is also god tier - it is about undergoing jedi training told in first person.
Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye is alternate Episode 5 (Dark Horse redid that story retconing it back into official continuity as 4-5 midquel) and since its a Foster book it is smooth as morning mist.
The New Jedi Order series is basically the sequel sequel trilogy with new threat invading the galaxy, it's hit or miss most of the time, but they take some giant swings in this one so gotta respect that because the best Disney Star Wars novels are Zahn's rewrites of Thrawn novels.
There's also the whole Dark Horse era of comics which is all over the place including Yoda young romance limited series and a crossover with Aliens (featuring Boba Fett doing god's work among other things) Marvel Star Wars been trash and remain trash, then now and forever - started strong, got caught up in retconing the shit out of itself when 5 and 6 came out and then completely lost its plot and died a death of irrelevance - Dark Horse kept it self-contained limited runs that moved fast and hit hard.
the thing with Lynch's extended fan edits (excluding Dune) is that you can see why Lynch settled on the final version, neither Blue Velvet, nor Wild at Heart, nor Fire Walk With Me, nor Inland Empire really benefit from all the extra stuff added back in. Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart just get too sleazy for the hell of it while FWWM and Inland Empire fall apart and starts meandering too much. Dune fan edit is top tier though.
real G
also - whacking Boba Fett was some Three Stooges shit that expanded universe kept retconning over and over again. could've just let him fly off being "nah, i'm good" once the shit hits the fan because he ain't getting paid for that.
Episode 1 is a mess because it starts in medias res from the wrong point of view and stays that way. It gets way better once you find out about Palpatine's scheming behind the scenes and all the tricks he pulled to manufacture a crisis and separatist uprising. turns out there is a lot of meat on the bone and the worst thing about the prequels is that it is basically anywhere else but the movies most of the time - like Attack of the Clones actually has fleshed out Anakin and Padme storylines but it is all in the deleted scenes and the novel - novelizations overall do the manhattan project worth of heavy lifting whipping it into shape.
Cash-in era Dali is hit and miss but when he hits he sticks because his hands are sticky.
its mild by AA standards.
funnily enough it is based on a deleted scene. BV with deleted scenes reincorporated is wild as fuck. It goes from being overtly suggestive to egregiously illustrative.
yup. that's what it is.
Bobby Peru is another one
