Analysts of American strategy such as John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt have demolished the "bulwark" argument. It doesn't make sense.

The American interest in the Middle East is the Persian Gulf oil. Israel is 1,000 miles away from the Persian Gulf and is extremely reluctant to deploy any troops beyond its borders.

Additionally the Persian Gulf is full of countries which are totally dependent on the US to maintain their regimes, such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait. These countries are willing to host US bases so that an American military presence can be right "on top" of the oil.

The idea that Israel is a totally necessary component for Gulf security, to the point where the US needs to grant it billions in aid each year, unconditionally, and support it politically at the UN and in other contexts, is not supported by facts.

In fact, the only risk to US presence in the Gulf is the totally corrosive nature of Israel in Middle East politics, making its presence visible and hated by the local populations. Saudi Arabia and others would be much more collaborative with the US IF NOT for Israel.

Zionist extremists are often considered 'centrists' or 'radical centrists' in the US because they do not care about US domestic issues and therefore project themselves as mediators.

While Netanyahu has been pointing to the genocide of Gaza and the attacks on Iran as reasons for his re-election, Eisenkot boasts of his more than forty years murdering or directing the murder of Palestinians, Lebanese and Muslims across the Middle East. He joined the Israeli military in 1978 and didn’t leave until he retired as IDF chief of staff in 2019. He made his name as the creator of the so-called “Dahiya doctrine” during his time as an IDF commander in Lebanon. This military strategy involves the use of overwhelming and disproportionate force against civilian populations to drive them into submission. It is named after the Beirut neighbourhood it was used in, under the command of Eisenkot, from July to August 2006. During this rampage the Israeli military murdered around 1,200 civilians.

Didn't know Eisenkot was behind Dahiya doctrine...

It is not part of the global media establishment. It offers a perspective outside of the global hegemony centered around the US, which includes media and has as a characteristic a distinct pro-Israel bias. Al Jazeera certainly isn't perfect, but it is outside the "establishment". That's why Israel bombs its buildings and shoots its reporters.
