Most spam and robocalling are not done from burner phones they are done through websites of which the FCC is fully aware. This seems like it's more about monitoring people's activities and preventing anyone without a Real ID from even getting a crappy burner phone.

If they were so serious about curbing spam calls, they could just as well mandate that telephony providers figure it out. This is just another attempt to ensure they can track and surveil dissent.

No spam call center is using a burner phone. They're using SIP trunks/VoIP lines through spoofed phone numbers.

CMV burner phones were always questionable in their privacy. How do you know the anonymous seller of your burner phone, isn't the government in disguise?

What's the implication on the use of e-sims? Right now I'm an enjoyer of using Cheogram with one of those vacation e-sim providers. It provides me with 30 days of cheap data, and then Cheogram gives me a number for voip and texting. This seems like it would tank the vacation e-sim market in the US.

The "privacy nightmare" that is literally already the case in most of the rest of the world since 10+ years.

I totally get why people are concerned about is, but the ignorance at display is quite astonishing.

I mean you can probably still use it without any SIM at all?
