IIRC, he was created by Vought (the corporation that makes super powered people) to be the perfect justification for them to seize military power in the US.

Say what you will about the show, but getting an IDF soldier to play this character is the best casting I've ever seen

One of the characters also has pictures framed in his house one of the black panthers (I think Huey Newton) right next to a framed picture of Obama. Lol
There's a lot to hate about Obama but there is one thing he did establish that Malcolm X would nod grimly at; something that may justify his inclusion on a wall of revolutionaries:
Even if a black man who becomes President rules the country like a moderate Republican and is the absolute exemplar of their Christian values, he won't be accepted by the majority of white men. Not only that, they will churn themselves into a frenzy of over-reaction. They will elect a new Hitler just to make themselves feel better. They will lose their goddamn minds like rabid animals, like their grandparents who took their kids to see lynchings and get photographed next to the naked, brutalised corpse.
This point could not have been demonstrated if Obama had not done everything to dance to their tune.
It demonstrates the sheer self-destructive, nihilistic racism inherent in the American system. It shows that electoral politics is not going to fix it.
Obama did not mean to do this. Many revolutionary figures do not. And he did not suffer like the others. So it's still a questionable choice, but perhaps not an indefensible one.
With all due respect I think this analysis is dead wrong. I don’t really have the energy to explain why tho I’m just a little white boy
I'd say it was good casting if he legitimately felt sorrow for the crimes he did on behalf of the IDF, and used his platform to speak out on behalf of those currently being genocided. But in the interviews about it he seems to have a casual view on his crimes, and mostly focuses on his own mental health.
Frenchie as a character has deep sorrow for his past actions, but the actor doesn't seem to.
So in practice it's terrible casting. It shits on all of the messaging of the show.
I mean, what if he does have actual sorrow, though? Sometimes people can take evasive means in public to deal with guilt. We can't use just body language to guess his actual thoughts.
Tbf, the entire point of this guy is that he was made a supe terrorist by a racist asshole fascist super hero, playing the public.
Yeah sure sure. Bunch of Zionists just so happen to think of a reason to portray Muslims as terrorists but can't find an Israeli symbol anywhere. Or wait should they just go full antisemitism? Ohh religious discrimination is only fine against Muslims I forgot.
Buddy you misunderstood the point. The whole show is a massive criticism of both capitalism and racism. The fact that this guy was a caricature was intentional, both in the boys and as a meta statement by the author. It's saying that western fear of middle eastern terrorists is driven by racist propaganda meant to trick people into accepting forever wars to fund the military industrial complex.
That's the excuse but in the end they got a Muslim on screen blowing himself up and that's what sticks in people's heads. You go to his wiki page and it says "Islamic terrorist".
I'm not sure how the author's message can be more face up. In the end media literacy is a responsibility of the audience to some degree, and criticizing satire for that which it portrays, or in this case criticizing messaging for that which it mocks is a failure to understand the message.
I'd be inclined to agree if the directors made any fun of Israel as well but their stereotypes seem to be limited to Christians and Muslims.
The notable absence of Israel in The Boys which is supposed to be a comedic parody of modern America is telling by itself.
Thinking this is anti-Muslim is the same level of critical analysis as thinking Homelander is the good guy.
Maybe you should be lecturing those people about artistic literacy instead of crying to us about the art
Maybe you should start researching where all of the anti-Muslim propaganda originated from and find out that it wasn't caused by the American military industrial complex, but actually by, you guessed it, Israel.
And by none other than our great friend B. Mileikowski.
I won't because I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over stuff that fundamentally doesn't matter. It's a caricature on a show known for over the top caricatures. Beyond that I think the whole show is overhyped and I didn't bother to finish it.
Go volunteer or take a walk or find a hobby. It's not healthy to be so hyper obsessed that you're signal boosting rage content that nobody here would have heard/thought about otherwise.

Reminds me of a BESM rpg someone I knew wanted to run. His idea was "kill Sailor Moon." We finally caved and came up with a party that obliterated the whole crew in one session. My character was stacked with every possible disadvantage so I could get "explodes on death" coupled with "resurrects somewhere safe." I can't remember the blast radius, somewhere between 1 city block and 1 mile radius.
In case you're interested, the rest of the crew was a wizard worth lots of flashy damage dealig spells up his sleeve, one mysterious charismaniac, and one retired Navy Seal sniper. Their roles were, respectively; get their attention, group them all together, and (after I walked near enough to them) shoot me in the head. The wizard also teleported him and the charisma guy away - radio earpieces are cheap and effective.
It was pretty funny watching the disbelief on the GM'S face as our death squad obliterated 5 teenage girls and their creepy stalker in like 3 hours. Most of that was min-maxing. Never underestimate the ability for a bunch of gamers to ruin any possible plan with enough character points and a few hours of prep time.
How about the Irish kid in Harry Potter?
What the hell is wrong with Eric Kripke?
What's that based on, and how recent?
Hirring an ex-IDF terrorist to play the role of "Frenchie"
Multiple statements from the other co-directors like Seth Rogan that they're Zionists.
Glaring lack of Israel in a series which claims to make fun of modern politics (weird how stereotyping Muslims was fine but Israel is a red line)...
This series started well before the wars.
And it's still going on. It parodies real American politics. Except the Israel part.
So...what? When the war started, Kripke should have just fired him, for something he's not even a part of, anymore? And why was he a terrorist, then? I'm aware Israel hasn't exactly been innocent in a long time, but terrorism is a stretch before October 7th.
Yah. That's the whole point. V is controlled by an American company, created by a literal Nazi in the 40s and 50s. This supe was specifically made to trick the US into allowing supes into the military. The show got away with it because they're criticizing the same thing you are.
Whoever posted this wasn't actually paying attention when they watched.
Yes and no. Vought made a terrorist supervillain for the reasons you described, yes, but they couldn't control what kinds of powers he'd get. The ones who decided he'd blow himself up were the show writers.
Vought has a history of playing into racist stereotypes in the narrative, so they probably overlooked more powerful/capable candidates in whatever experiments they were doing once they got this guy.
Sure, that's possible, but there's no evidence in the show that they did that.

Yeah you are right he's the only one, I forgot Homelander got them the dose of V
This feels like a thermian argument. In-universe explanations don't justify racist stereotypes as written by the author. Plus, this is The Boys we're talking about... Kripke had Hughie raped last season because he thought it was funny. Don't give them any credit
This supe was specifically made to trick the US into allowing supes into the military. The show got away with it because they’re criticizing the same thing you are.
It's a cheap and lazy critique. "We gave the Muslim the Blow Himself Up power, virtually no lines, no real story arc, as a cheap throw-away useful idiot character to advance a plot that's mostly about white people grappling for power".
The writing isn't particularly original or compelling anymore. It's like they just gave up after season 3. Now every episode just an excuse to have Homelander laserbeam people in the dick. Invincible has gone the same way. They've substituted gross-out visuals for all but the most basic-bitch "Bad Guys Are Bad, Good Guys Are Annoying and Conflicted" story arcs.
If I recall, this was season 2. Maybe even season 1.
Edit:
Becides you gave the reason in your own sarcastic quote.
It's a show mostly about white people grappling for power in the US. It's not about war or terrorism in the middle east. And there's nothing wrong with making a show that's not about that. This character and that whole part of the world wasn't important to the story. So wasn't given a full spotlight treatment.
If you think the show should be about sup-terrorists in the middle-east. That's a cool idea. There's plenty of story there. But that's not this story, and that's ok.
Invincible has gone the same way
Yup. It doesn't have to be written well anymore, as long as they have long, brutal fight scenes to keep fans happy. The animators really have a thing for intestines this season. That said, I have to admit that I am one of those fans that's kept happy by those long, brutal fight scenes. Everyone on my couch was cheering while ____________ choked the fuck out of __________.
I think the biggest difference between the two shows for me is that The Boys is despairingly cynical, and Invincible is relatively optimistic. It seems like Robert Kirkman generally likes humanity, and Garth Ennis hates everyone and everything.
Buddy, his entire character in the show is created specifically to create fear with the people and the government so a corporation can make more money.
They got away with it because it has similarities with what happened in the past. An example would be finding WMD in Iraq.
The existential horror of suicide bombing is implicit in the nihilism of the bomber, an individual who believes their only value to society is as a personification of military technology. The show doesn't explore this at all. The character doesn't have any character. He's just a throw-away threat used to explain another Supe's disfigurement.
They got away with it because it has similarities with what happened in the past
Naqib is a lazy caricature of a Syrian guerrilla fighter. He gets something like two jokey lines, then gets decapitated. The writers got away with it because lazy caricatures of Arabs in action media are the standard for western media.
Compare him to Ted Sprague in the TV Show "Heroes", a guy with a legit story arc, a tragic backstory, multiple confrontations with the protagonists, and an ongoing beef with "The Company" (the Vought counterpart in the Heroes setting) that drives the plot forward.
Of course Sprague is a mash up of Ted Kaczynski and Timmothy McVey rather than Cliche Arab. So I guess he deserves a bit more respect.
What is this from? I'm just gonna take a stab in the dark and say The Boys?
Can't believe the TV Show that freely trades on ethnic tropes would do this.
Considering how wild this show got, i kinda feel like they could have left the plane scene as a 911 plane.
Dont get me wrong, season 1 was only loosely based on the comics, and by season 2 they went completely their own way. Which is fine. But that added so much I thought, to how awfule supes are.
Yeah it wasnt a good look. Wasn't there an explosive Irish guy at some point too?
Edit: was I mistaken, or did i just annoy some /b/ larpers
Does he die if he blow up or he come back to life after? Cuz if it's one time thing, how did he know what superpower he got?
