It was another date which will live in infamy. But whereas President Franklin Roosevelt declared war in sombre tones to a joint session of Congress, Donald Trump did it his way.

The US president wore a white cap “USA” cap, dark jacket and white shirt open at the collar. He stood at a blue lectern bearing the US presidential seal and a black microphone, with the Stars and Stripes behind him, presumably at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. He released a video on his own social media network, Truth Social, at 2.30am on Saturday – a time when most Americans are asleep but Trump is often found rage tweeting into the night.

In the space of eight minutes, Trump proceeded to upend half a century of US foreign policy, renege on his campaign promise to avoid the risk of forever wars and leave the Fifa boss, Gianni Infantino, with some explaining to do about why he gave Trump a made-up peace prize.

“There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go,” the oleaginous Infantino had told Trump last December. Trump was not wearing that medal on Saturday. Instead he delivered a performance that would have had soccer fans chanting: “Are you George Bush in disguise?”

He's already won the "stupidest president ever in office" that W had.

Remember when we were convinced that Dubya was the worst American president ever? I actually kinda miss him now.

Everytime I think conservatives hit rock bottom they manage to dig deeper. I do not look forward to the person who makes Trump look reasonable by comparison.

He's also vying to be recognized as the Antichrist who starts a war in the Middle East and ends the world in the Nostradamus prediction.

We used to think it was George W Bush, but since the world didn't end, the idiot Trump is the new contender.

I love it when it makes his cock-sucking hand gesture.

He has irreparably broken the alliances with Canada and all NATO countries, which are only nominally maintained while they reorganize without the USA, he traded it for a flimsy personal friendship with Putin and sheer servility toward Israel. He won that trophy a long time ago.

W does not have the worst foreign policy decision in history. major recency bias and Statesia bias there. For example, the city state of Sparta pretty much did not make a good foreign policy decision, but they made them with enough style that we remember them.

Idk about that. Iraq was never a valid target, had nothing to do with 9/11, but Iran is an actual adversary and a source of so much suffering.

Overall yes but not the Iran war.

If they now just install a new government and don't kill any more people for no reason, then this may actually be a positive development.

IMO the USA should have no part of the installment of a new government aside from cooperating with and maintaining close relations with the revolutionaries.

Same for Israel but also Israel should not gain any territory at all.

Gonna be hard to overcome just because of how long Bush's decision kept us in Afghanistan. But Trump is doing his best. Illegal tariffs for everyone, illegally bombing boats in international waters, capturing heads of states, trying to bully other nations into giving us land, etc. I'm sure I've missed at least a dozen other international incidents. No way to keep track of them all in my head.

The sheet amount of things and their lasting impact on our reputation may tip the scale. And there's still about 3 years to go. I'm sure Trump will come out on top by the end. One way or another.
