The FBI director couldn’t stop himself from posting news that shouldn’t be public.

This administration is an insult to all of us who actually take national security seriously.

Isn't this like a slam dunk for Weddings legal defense? The FBI doesn't have legal jurisdiction to operate outside of the US..... Isn't this basically admitting to violating his 4th amendment rights?

The Main Justice touched on this after the Maduro "extraction". Standing case law is that once you're in the US border, you're fair game. It doesn't matter how you got here, only that you're here now.

They went on to explain how this can have some legal justification and mentioned the guy behind the Bengazi attack. In that case, there was no formal government in Libya (they were having a civil war post Gaddafi), so the US couldn't appeal to a government for extradition. Also, there was a legitimate case of self defense - the guy did attack a consulate and could easily do it again. Lastly, the US notified the UN they were going to be taking the actions prior to extraction.

But none of those things apply to either the Maduro or Weddings.

I wish Sheinbaum had the ability to retaliate against the rogue state that is the USA presently.

I'm confused by this whole story. How were the Hostage Response Team or even Mexican police involved if he was surrendering himself at the US embassy? I'm also confused by his lawyer's account about being surprised to be handcuffed. How did he think this was going to work?

The cover didn't look like AI and other comments were acting as if it were real, so I decided to look it up. I never would have imagined something so fucking stupid could even exist ... but then again, I have siloed myself in recent years with people who aren't fucking stupid

Is his eye lazy even in his own book? I guess credit to him for owning it, likely the only credit I’ll ever give him

Last week, the U.S. deployed the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team to Mexico to capture Wedding, who once was protected by the powerful Sinaloa cartel. But that was supposed to be kept secret, especially since Mexican law prohibits foreign law enforcement officers from being physically present in operations on Mexican soil, let alone take part in raids and arrests.

On Friday, however, FBI Director Kash Patel announced the joint operation publicly on X. “Our FBI HRT teams executed with precision, discipline, and total professionalism alongside our Mexican partners to bring Ryan James Wedding back to face justice,” he wrote, sending shock waves through Mexico.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum scrambled to perform damage control, as foreign intervention in Mexico is politically toxic. She said that there was no U.S. involvement in the operation and that U.S. agents in Mexico are limited by law.

USA has no jurisdiction in Mexico. That's the story.

No, it’s that some executives allowed us law enforcement into operations that is not allowed by law in Mexico. And that US law enforcement embarrassed said executives by revealing failure to respect those laws. All parties probably learned something from this.

Expand to ‘done in the name of the US’ and it might encourage more action.

It’s done in the name of the US, not just individuals. The US as a whole does it. Whether on not they all endorse it doesn’t matter and only means the good ones need to do something about it.
