I can no longer in good conscious continue to upload videos to YouTube. In the last year, the company has "donated" to Trump's Epstein Ballroom, allowed back dangerous anti-vaxxers they previously banned back, are using AI to alter videos without the creator's consent or knowledge, and so much more.

Fantastic read! Thanks for sharing. I need to find a good tutorial to get started with Peertube

It's been steadily enshittifying on the user experience side too.

    • subscription feed has been removed from the sidebar when expanded (but continues to exist when not)
    • you can no longer add a video to multiple playlists at once. now you need to wait for the toast to clear, then press the kebab menu again, for each playlist.
    • search filtering has been nerfed just today. you can't sort results by upload date anymore.

The last one basically makes my work curating new content on a search term impossible now. what a load of bs.

Thanks for this thorough rundown of YouTube's enshittification and egregious practices. Admittedly, YouTube is the one google thing that I haven't been able to fully abandon and I hate it.

Made my peertube.wtf channel yesterday. I had stopped using YouTube when Trump got reelected. With a not-fascist platform I might start uploading videos again.

I was not aware how bad some of the new features have made youtube, since I almost never go there anymore "directly", I use alternative frontends like nadeko.net provides, so thanks for posting this. Once this loophole is closed, I will loose my favorite creators forever, if they do not migrate to other platforms, or start blogging like this guy.
