Winning something is easy, to win you must already be good at that thing, but in order to get good you must try and fail over and over until you are good. And thats the true test, having the strength to keep going and trying.

My son was struggling with going down a ramp on his scooter, he was scared to try, then he tried and failed, he was scared to try again. And after much encouragement and trying smaller ramps and other bits we got to a point where he wasn't scared to try and he could do the whole ramp. And now he is winning every time and its easy for him.

Winning is easy, trying is hard.

The real secret is understanding failure makes us learn quicker and that we rarely get better unless we’re uncomfortable.

One of my favorite movies is Meet the Robinsons. If you haven’t watched it with him it’s a great message about failure and not being afraid of it.

Last time I tried dropping in (on a skateboard), I was probably like 8... I immediately slid out and hit my back on the top rail, winded myself for a solid 30 seconds. Legitimately thought I was going to die, never again 😂

Being at the top of a ramp waiting to drop in is uncomfortable even for adults if you haven't been exposed to it. Props to your kid for conquering that fear.

Also any adults who want that feeling again should take up downhill mountain biking. The adrenaline rush when you finally conquer a large drop or jump on your bike is the same no matter your age.
