The Congressional Progressive Caucus over the weekend officially endorsed a bill that would block the sale of many offensive US weapons to Israel. This move coincides with growing outrage from US voters from across the political spectrum who say they have seen enough of American complicity with the genocidal humanitarian blockade and bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

The Block the Bombs Act, first introduced in May by Rep. Delia C. Ramirez (D-Ill.) and now backed by 49 co-sponsors, calls for a prohibition on the sale of a variety of US weapons and a limitation on military services to the Israeli government, accused of committing a genocide in Gaza.

The vote by the caucus, which took place Saturday and was first reported by Zeteo, marks a historic shift—even for the most progressive group of lawmakers on Capitol Hill—that provides “a significant boost to efforts to hold Israel accountable for its genocidal war in Gaza.”

Jesus about bloody time. Sadly far too many lives have already been lost. Not as horrible is the fact that masses of buildings and entire areas are now rubble.

Yes America is certainly complicit in attempted genocide. But hey wae is good for business right.......

If there is actually a hell, there's going to be one heck of a lot of arseholes staying there.

Maybe my understanding is too naive, but doesnt Israel make plenty of its own weapons, just not as 'smart?' Seems like limiting their access to US weaponry isnt going to curb their attacks, just make them even less discriminate.

This feels like the Kantian take on the trolley problem; 'doesnt matter that more people die if i dont pull the lever; my inaction means my hands are clean'

There have been constant events of children being gunned down in a breadline. Journalists have been routinely being sniped. Surrendering hostages waving white flags have been killed. I am not sure there's a whole lot 'less' discrimination there.

Not actively giving them the weapons they're using to kill civilians is a step in the right direction, at least. Right now the US is complicit in their crimes since they've kept sending arms despite knowing for several months that they're being used for war crimes.

Seems like the same political forces that compelled Australia, Canada and the Uk to recognize Palestine. And what compelled Sanders to recognize the genocide .

In all cases: move that still prioritizes Israel, is a powerless gesture, still supports the genocide, whose sole purpose is to provide political cover.

If this goes through, won’t it be too little too late?

Won't do much when Israel still has control over a majority of our politicians, but it is a start.
