unless it is "we fucked it, here they are free and so are some outfits" then its not enough.

Day one DLC is a cancer in this industry, such blatant cash grab is insulting
- Paradox changes their mind, allows either some or all initial DLC clans through as free content
- Consumers forgive
- Consumers forget
- Paradox refines their approach and tries again next time
Consumers are way too forgiving of the scummy monetisation practices that these companies demonstrate again and again and again and again and again. Happened with the whole PSN account/Steam debacle too.
I remember talking about how greedy Paradox is on Reddit a couple years ago (before Spez went full mask-off), and you'd think I personally slapped every one of those basement-dweller's moms. I have never in my life seen a general gaming community go so hard to bat in defense of $1000 of DLC comprised largely of character packs, and I hope to never see it again
There was a time I was okay with their DLC policy. It kept their games fresh for years for very reasonable prices, assuming you bought them as they came out or waited for deep discounted sales.
But then they got greedy. They raised prices, the quality fell through the floor and games got worse instead of better, and they kept trying to sell less and less for more while clearly cutting corners that should never be cut. It’s disappointing how far they’ve fallen. I hope someday they can recover their old magic, but I don’t expect that. Enshittification comes for everything under capitalism eventually.
The only time where extra characters as DLC could be considered okay is fighting gameS imo. Even then though, it shouldn't be locking OP characters behind pay walls; they should all more or less be equal in power but play differently.
I think it's fine in any type of game...as long as they're actually not developed in time to be included in the original release. The closest thing in games that I play is civs in RTS games. A civ in an RTS is basically a "character" in a fighting game. New characters in a MOBA would probably be the same. And turn-based strategy civs.
These all require extra dev time to implement new mechanical features. Extra balance work to make sure they're well-balanced (both on release, and later with future balance patches). Extra design work to make sure they look good and unique. It's completely reasonable to charge for them. Just not if they're there, ready to go, day one.
DLCs that release 3-6 months after initial game release are probably legit continuations. Any game with day one DLC deserves to be scorned into oblivion.
Well, it would literally be the difference of buying the game or not at all for me, so...
- Announce a change of heart “we heard you and you’re so right”
- Label a few existing quests and areas as “DLC”
- Plop a “DLC” onto the main menu
- Re-label existing day one DLC and call it new
- Release “day one” DLC in a few months
Good to hear.
To save anyone from digging for more details – “making adjustments” was all the info that was given by a trusted source in a community message in their Discord.
My plan was to buy it on release, but the moment I read they would release clans as DLC the game was dead to me.
I'll check back in a year or two. Maybe then when everything is in one package.
Good. I mean, who does this? You're selling flight tickets before the plane is even built. At least wait until the game is released to gage if players even want a DLC.
Even still, you've shown your hand. Now players think that you were sectioning off development of certain aspects of a game to then later sell off for extra cash instead of focusing on releasing a fully built game. Terrible mistake.
You're selling flight tickets before the plane is even built.
I'm pretty sure that's actually happening in some cases.
Paradox was a company I was looking for in the past. Now, they became a hard pass since, what... City skylines 2? Or something...
The never ending DLC abuses and the drop of Linux support on top of buggy releases (and DLCs) made me do a 180 degrees with them.
It's kind of sad really.
They seems to fully turn the corner to oblivion with their handling of the debacle that was CS2. Just a failure from top to bottom. A far cry from the glory that original Cities:Skylines was. Now it’s just constant DLC’s that paywall basic mechanics. Surprised they haven’t made the games in monochrome and charge for DLC color packs.
what is the future of this IP? i feel like Paradox has fumbled this at every turn.
Dead. Well, they've did a rebrand on an internal team back to the name white wolf, but a rebrand doesn't mean anything. Maybe paradox will change going forward, but they seem to genuinely hate the WoD franchise so I'm not holding my breath.
If it is ready before release, it should be included in the release.
"After we announced we would like to tear your wallet a new one, many of you voiced your concerns and we heard you!. We will be tearing you a new one but the hole will be smaller. Stay tuned and follow us on ult-right social media"
Mmmmmmm too bad, that is a lost sale from me. I can't trust that developer. That game has a snowball's chance in hell, unfortunately.
Its insane how this development cycle turned me from a day 1 buy to a "wait for the deep discount" and maybe swearing off Paradox products in general.
The news of this game just keeps on sucking like a Toreador in an Elysium back room.
