Some bad takes in these comments. If someone doesn't want spoiled, don't spoil it. Doesn't matter how old it is. It's basic kindness.

No one on Earth has read every older story and watched every older movie and TV series.

    The distilled commandments of God:

    1. Don't be a dick.
    2. Fuck off.

Not enough "I'll fucking kill you if you even LOOK at another god. Matter of fact, go ahead and cut off part of your dick to prove you love me."

    That's the fine print.

    1. And suffer and die.
    2. Asshole.
    3. AND NO FUNNY BUSINESS EITHER!

It's very funny to me how the world is still to a significant degree governed by bronze age Mesopotamian superstitions.

Spoilers doesn't apply if the story is older than civilizations.

I like to keep the best for last. Which tends to be a bad idea..

I'm now gonna go on a wild tangent about everything wrong with Nolan's shit film:

The book starts with a summary of the whole story

That’s like people who were getting pissed when Titanic came out and others were commenting that the ship sinks.

No that's different. everybody knows that the Titanic sank, but not everyone has read The Odyssey. They teach the former in school, and the latter isn't always required reading.

TBF that's only one of the stories. Personally I didn't even know that it came from The Odyssey until I saw the film. Anecdotal; I know, I know.

Technically speaking the horse is more illiad, but the number of people who know about blinding the cyclops as "nobody" or other events are pretty high. They make a new movie or game or miniseries every so often

(My fave is still the one with Armand Assante)

TBF, the movie wasn't an exact take and there were parts of the story I had forgotten, so no, I didn't want to hear about it.

Love the comments taking this seriously like, “Erm, ahktually not everyone has read the book.”

It’s a joke, not a dick. Don’t take it so hard.

You mean you could have heard someone tell it for 3000 years, since even after it was written down, it was very hard to get a copy for like 2000 years.
