Im posting this here to see if anyone has any solutions or help. I am diagnosed with autism, and I often get embarrassing special interests or hyperfixations.. usually it would be like Miraculous, kids' shows that can also be seen by teens and adults but as of 3 years ago I've gotten really into Go Diego Go.. its the only show I'll watch, and I'll only draw and think about Go Diego Go. But every time I talk to anyone about i fear they're giving the dirty look behind the screen or thinking Im a weirdo in their minds if its in real life. I hate being autistic.

My problem is I get so obsessed that it hurts if I don't talk about it to people, like my brain gets so full that I can't function if I don't share it and I only have one last friend who won't judge me but they're always busy and I can tell they don't really want to hear about it. At the same time if I've yapped about something too much (like my infection au for GDG) it gets TIRING to yap about it further as if I've beat the dead horse into non-existence. It's awful.

I currently make Star Trek memes as an outlet so I don't talk the ears off people in my life who don't care. I get to interact with a community that cares about the content and the votes I get tell maybe 100 or so people heard what I wanted to say and might even give a shit. Forums are great for this. Find your community for what you're into and go wild making memes or just talk. Then when the hyperfixation ends you move on and don't get shit from people who learned to see you only as the "Go Diego Go" person.

  • I feel this lol

I have gotten "lucky" in that one of my special interests is my work, and it's my job to be a subject matter expert but that doesn't mean that people don't get sick of me or that I don't overwhelm people with info. The other issue is that I don't stop working 😬

Do you think you would have the same benefit from a blog? Are there any forums for your interests? Sometimes I yap into the void and while it's not as fun as someone being interested and asking questions, it's not that far off.

The other benefit is that my info might be useful to others. I'm sure you are not the only person obsessed with these shows. Maybe someone would love to come across a blog with deep analysis.

Well everytime I get invited to meet new poeple at dinner I will talk about the Donner Party and mention I have the Donner Party Board game in case they want to play it. You know, like a totally normal person would do. So yeah. Also how fucked up is it there is a Donner Pass PICNIC AREA!?

You can make the Donner Party happen in The Oregon Trail 2 video game! It's quite difficult because usually you hit the pass well before the storm because they sort of sucked. I've managed it once! Was exciting!

Yap into a microphone and record it. Record some videos of yourself playing video games. Edit out the audio from the gameplay footage and replace it with your yapping. You now have a video in a format similar to many semi-popular YouTube "podcasts".

I've made many of these videos. I haven't uploaded any, but making them is helpful.

Yea, it sucks when you're super hyped about something and literally no one wants to hear about it.

One thing that helps me out is writing about it, even if no one reads about it, so maybe keeping a blog can help you let off some of that steam. Maybe making a fun page in neocities to show off your stuff for anyone that might also be interested in GDG can be a step up from a blog

Another way that can help you is doing audio or video reviews/analyses of the episodes and show the drawings they inspired you to do, no need to show your face or even post it to YT or any big social media, as trolls can decide to pile up and harass you.
