Blaming the Iran War is poised to become this cycle’s overly simplistic post-election narrative device. It offends almost no one, absolves the rest of the Trump II depredations, and misses its own anti-democratic origins.

We’re at risk of having the blue wave chalked up merely to the pocketbook impacts of the Iran War and the Trump tariffs without connecting either of them to the underlying authoritarianism involved.

The Iran War and the Trump tariffs, many of which (though not all) were struck down by the Supreme Court, were unilateral and illegal acts by the executive branch.

...

The notion that Republicans were victimized by Trump’s political “missteps” and “miscalculations” necessarily supposes that his rogue anti-democratic presidency is somehow disconnected from the horrible outcomes it produces. It also unwittingly implies that if the outcomes had been good, the means would have been fine.

So, if you take the Iran War and gas at $6.00/gallon away, what changed?

People knew Trump was a rapist and a crook in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

Working class being ignored and poor people being left in the ditch was a huge factor why people ignored Trump's flaws and voted for the clown anyway.

It's easier to blame just the voters. It's harder to hold Dems accountable.

Left is the only side that can do anything about neoliberalism. Right will never fight for the working class but they will get protest votes from the workers mad at Left. Fix the Left. That's a better use of time than blaming voters or Conservative grifters.

Before 1968, a high school grad having enough money to own a home and support a stay at home wife was considered normal. Between 1968 and 1992 there was exactly one Dem President, Jimmy Carter.

It was the GOP that took us to a time when 'middle class' meant two jobs.

But yes, let's vote for them to save the economy! /s

Cons are generally terrible for workers and I know they're not interested in doing anything for poor people.

Left is firmly in control of neolibs that don't care about workers and poor people either. Right isn't going to fix the Left for us.

Corporate Dems are currently strutting around like it's their victory. They were awfully silent when it was time to support some of the Blue candidates. GOP keeps making things worse and Corporate Dems keep playing along at the expense of workers who just handed them victory in the most unlikely places.
