Just learned that the Translations feature on Firefox desktop can be used by itself! A test page is shipped and is accessible at about:translations that allows users to enter the text to translate and the languages to translate from and to.

When Firefox shipped Translations originally, I've always wanted to be able to use it stand-alone especially as an alternative to Google Translate. On Android, there is an offline translate tool that someone has built which uses the models from Firefox.

    TIL about:translations

Thanks! I had just been lazy enough to add a to blank tab. This is much easier and obviously better.

Nice, yet another alternative to Google. I just used Google Translate this morning. No more.

Is this a desktop only feature? On mobile it tells me an invalid address when opening about:translations

It says "supported platforms" are desktop and android, but not ios. It also says it requires SSE4.1 to work, which I assume most phones do not support (pretty sure that is x86/x64 based technology). The actual feature also has an on/off switch in the settings. I still couldn't get about:translations to show anything.
