Kept abortion legal and banned the legislature from hindering ballot measures. The state sovereign wealth fund was voted down, which I'm ambivalent about and requiring county sheriffs to be an elected position keeps going back and forth but looks like it passed.

  • And Virginia enshrined abortion rights in their constitution yesterday

It even looks like Idaho voted Yes for their Prop 1. Only by 2000 votes, but it's shocking.

They also voted down the gerrymandered map that the supreme court had to shut down three times.

Great news to be sure but damn, only flipped a single seat to Democrat. Still following the grand tradition of keeping on voting the same people who wants to strip your rights you just voted for away.

Again, still great news all around!

God damn, is there any bad news at all from yesterday's voting?

Yes, trans people lost rights in propositions that passed across 3 or 4 states.

Which states? I'm sure that they are already "dangerous" states for the trans community anyways.

And while I know that it comes across as snark, it's to be expected in certain states.

The Washington state "genital exam" measure for girls sports passed.

That's sickening. Hope they're ready for their entire girls sports program to come to a grinding halt.

That doesn't surprise me. I was forced to live next door in Idaho for 5 years. WA state is not nearly as progressive outside of Seattle as you'd hope. I found out once I visited a few times.

The whole eastern half of WA is pretty shit, politics included, imo.

They tried to push Amendment 3 over the line by adding in some anti-trans nonsense then running all the yes on 3 ads saying it will protect kids from forced trans surgery or some nonsense. Luckily MO GOP have tried so much bullshit like that over the last 15 years or so that even MO voters won't fall for it.

Basically all the dems take money from AIPAC in MO so it never feels like a true victory

Edit: not to discredit the victory entirely, just to highlight my personal frustrations

Unfortunately Cori Busch crowded out any other challengers to Bell in MO-1 due to her formerly holding that seat and being high profile but she is deeply unpopular and lost decisively in the primary. Maybe in 2 years I will register to run against bell and soundly lose by refusing to take money from lobbyist/special interest groups but it would be fun just to be able to vote for myself.
