  • Brush: Zenith MOAR BOAR
  • Razor: GEM Clog Pruf
  • Blade: GEM PTFE (5)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Hallows (Glissant) - Puck
  • Post Shave: Whole Hog - Unscented - Aftershave
  • Osma: Osma - Osma
  • Bowl: Georgetown Pottery - G20

I arguably helped make this brush. It is effectively a collab between a bunch of people on this sub, much like Rad Dino and Chiseled Hound. Considering its legendary status, I clearly should win the prize for today. Well, I’d have to share it with a few others. But still.

Hallows is clearly a fall and Halloween scent. It’s called Hallows, so, you know.

    • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving 31mm x 57mm Moar Boar
    • Razor: Koraat 14 "Moarteen" 15/16" Full Hollow
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Hallows - Soap
    • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Hallows - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Coconut - Toner
    • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Hallows - Eau de Toilette

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was a perfect Halloween shave for me. I always enjoy Hallows (even when it isn't Halloween) due to its dark, slightly swampy, dank vibe. After the video, I remembered that I had the EdT, so I've been enjoying wafts of Hallows since my late-morning shave.

I have made several 3D printed brush handles to accept a 28mm Motherlode knot that I have, but I have not settled on how I want to finish the fused-filament surface from the printing process so I did not assemble one of these for the challenge. Instead, I chose to use the MOARBoar; a brush that we (r/Wetshaving) had made for us.

To complete my nod to the community and all of the activities we have, I used the MOARteen straight razor.

Thanks to the judges for putting this on. October isn't a good LG month for me, but I hope that it was great for everyone else.

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts - w/Maggard SHD 30mm Badger
    • Razor: Geneva Cutlery Co. (Genco) - 5/8 Half Hollow (2)
    • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts - Tres Matres - Soap
    • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Tres Matres - Toner

Theme justification: Southern Witchcrafts was a witchy themed company, so arguably anything from their lineup should count for today! Most, if not all, of their labels feature wonderfully spooky spider webs and an overall occult vibe. Witches are supernatural, after all.

Theme: Halloween - Intrepid Man is obviously an Autumn scent to my nose. But my nose and brain don't really work like that. I like what I like and I wear it when it's good to me. I am going to make the case that IM is a Halloween scent.

    Intrepid Man description:

This deep, spicy, oriental scent opens with a rich blend of Indian sandalwood, cinnamon, coriander, and juniper berry, creating a captivating and complex aroma. The heart notes of lavender, orange, and rosemary add a refreshing and invigorating dimension, while the base of tonka bean and vanilla provides a warm and comforting finish.

According to the etymology of intrepid, it is what stands against fear. A man standing in faith as the evils of the world swirl about. It's what's left after Halloween.

    Etymonline entry for intrepid:

"unmoved by danger, undaunted," 1690s, from French intrépide (16c.) and directly from Latin intrepidus "unshaken, undaunted, not alarmed," from in- "not" (see in- (1)) + trepidus "alarmed" (reconstructed to be from PIE *trep-(1) "to tremble;" see trepidation). Related: Intrepidly; intrepidness (1620s).

Frank Herbert's concept shows all good leading to stasis and death; all evil leading to a fiery end. You can't have Halloween without Intrepid Man. This also makes me think of the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear:

    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Daily Challenge: Make a Brush - I took this literally and didn't think of making a meme brush. I participated in the PIGSY-2 group buy and got a 29mm boar fan. I went back to Oumo on my own and got an Exceed Classic handle. After consulting with others, I put it together with silicone sealant.

I put it through the refrigerator break-in process this last week. Today was my first shave with it. I was having a hard time choosing between fan or bulb. Next time I'll probably go bulb. Fan isn't bad. It's early to say but I'm going to say Zenith > Oumo, at least in boar knots. This 29mm seems small in diameter and length. I may change my mind as it breaks in. The edge of the fan is curling out and acts more of a scraper than a paint brush. Proof of making.

    October 31st, 2026: Halloween

    • Brush: Zenith - MOAR BOAR (r/wetshaving exclusive) 31mm Boar
    • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing 921-M
    • Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium (10)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann/Southern Witchcrafts - Samhain - Soap
    • Post Shave: Chicago Grooming Co. - Grounds & Shavings - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Catie’s Bubbles - Dranks - EdP

Theme justification - Samhain is the Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season in the fall, and is the inspiration behind the soap. It's one of my favorite fall scents, and I personally enjoy the BaM vegan base slightly more than SW's.

Relevant Post Shave or Frag - The splash and frag are related via scent, not necessarily via theme. Grounds & Shavings is coffee, cedarwood, and black pepper. Dranks brings more coffee, more bourbon, more tobacco, and a lovely thread of blood orange. I don't use this frag often because of how potent it is (especially at first), but it is truly a beautiful scent. $FOF

Daily challenge - Couldn't make it happen.
