Worst day ever so far
post
Oh no, anyway.
Reddit's been dead for a while.
“Reddit is the last platform to provide basically unfettered logged-out access, and that’s largely because of me. I’ve been holding that line,” Huffman said. “I think users will probably go through the same understanding that I have, which is that it’s a sign of the times. It’s an evolution of how these platforms work.”
Listens with interest from the Threadiverse, which has many instances that provide logged-out access.
Also, it’s funny that he touts logged-out access while a large percentage of the site is walled off. They also block VPNs if you’re logged out, because they want to be able to tie your tracking data to a specific account. They can do that easily if you’re not on a VPN, so they let you browse without an account.
But if you’re behind a VPN and blocking all of their background trackers, they can’t easily tie your browsing history back to a specific user. So they force you to log in, so they can track everything your account does.
Fuck Spez?
Surely this will get better with their removal of old reddit.
It will get better with their removal of old reddit... Right?
TBH it really deserves this and always has. I know a lot of people love to talk about the good old days of reddit, but tbh, in the old days it provided a safe harbor for the extreme misogyny that fuels a good portion of the right wing craziness of present day
Not just the misogyny that fuels today's right-wing craziness, but also the racism, the transphobia, and the child sex abuse that fuel today's right-wing craziness, too.
Reddit hosted forums for organizing hate crimes, and forums for pedophiles to exchange photos of children.
You could have found those corners anywhere on the net since the 1990s. But I agree, Reddit just made it way to easy and organized to get into those spaces.
I finally actually deleted my account today. I figured I might as well so they don't even get an ounce of support from me.
Went over there today. There’s a top feed blurb and an autoplay ad right below it with some muted blonde girl emoting about something. The content isn’t the main feature the blonde girl with her ad is.
No one wants that. I left.
I don't think the owners of Reddit care .... they got their money, they'll probably make a bit more even if it fails and then they'll take their wads of bank notes and wipe their tears away with it all.
The game wasn't about making a great website, sharing info, making people feel good or spreading knowledge ... it was always about just making money and they did just that.
So the endgame is dump and run. Wonder who will buy it, Elon or Zuckerberg.
It's time to invest into FEDI stonks. I mean, support your favorite platforms' mainteiners.
Helps if they stopped banning people randomly because you pissed off the trumpers, and didn't require 500 karma to post anywhere
