My experience having a mother who was a teacher. I didn't get to stay home sick unless I was at risk of infecting others, and she always got the homework I missed.
I hated it at the time, but she was right.
My mom was the opposite. A core memory of mine was being dropped off late (she'll be late to her own funeral... 1.5 hours of makeup and prep to drop us off at school and then go home. She's a narcissist if you didn't figure that out already. My dad too) with what was probably 24 hour stomach flu.
I went to my first period class, sat down, and promptly projectile vomited onto the floor beside my desk.
I took out half the class with whatever I had the day after. And of course admin tried to make it my fault when i'm just a kid with self absorbed morons for parents...
My MIL is like that. When my wife was literally dying from the flu (103F temp and unable to keep water down for 3+ days), she had to put her makeup on before going to the hospital.
I eventually figured out not only is it an image thing, but having the family waiting on her in the car to go somewhere is a power thing for her. So she gets BIG MAD if you leave the car and play video games or something to pretend you don't care about being on time either. I'm also always late to pick her up for anything when she knows I'm punctual for literally anyone else...
Hahaha, imagine how terrible this zag game would have to be to make you dread the school closing as much. Most educational games I played were at least kind of fun. I imagine this dad to be a total psychopath, in a good way? Hahaha
I don't think our school was ever canceled, but I got to stay home when I was sick. I never liked telling my parents I was sick because it was met with skepticism, but in the end there was a whole lot of Aladin VHS involved, which in my view was a step up from school.
