Combine that episode with "Men Against Fire," and we've got our near future.

Throw in a little bit of presidential pig fucking for fun.

Side note, I rewatched 15 Million Merits a couple weeks back and goddamn there was a lot I forgot about that one. We may not be powering a generational space ship with exercise bikes, but holy shit did it nail worker exploitation, classism, and consumerism. And the banality of it all.

The end is absolutely brutal on so many levels.

The end is hilariously dark because it's so self referrencial to Booker's previous work on Newswipe/Screenwipe.

Daniel Kaluuya's final monologue is absolutely channeling Brooker in his Screenwipe era.

I know! At least we got an Antiviral Wipe during COVID!

It kills me how few (American) people know that Philomena Cunk came from those series, and it makes me sad that we never see anymore of Barry Shitpeas, her compatriot "man on the street" figure in the Wipe series.

I found the arc of his love interest (Jessica Brown Findlay according to Google) to be even more depressing than him selling out.

Seeing her drugged up (I had completely forgotten about the "Cuppliance" drug they forced on her before going on stage) in the porn ads was heartbreaking.

And on top of all of that, being forced to watch them because he gave up all of his credits. Before he sold out of course. And what did he sell out for? A slightly bigger flat with a TV screen that looks like a window. Cool.

I've never seen Newswipe or Screenwipe, but I'll have to check them out. I've enjoyed everything I've seen from Brooker.
