It’s a variety program about American culture. You can’t do cultural commentary without doing politics, and when the state of politics is literally “will we decend into fascism or not thanks to a literal clown”, it’s not just buttering the bread, it’s the whole shebang. People would stop watching if you became a complacency distraction hour of boring dad jokes, or worse, far right “comedy” routines. The most popular thing he does is the routine with his white co-host where they literally use free speech and comedy fused to show how comedy is done right while being shocking, without punching down. It’s political. But it’s not hate. So leave the show and go write entertainment that isn’t political, or start buttering that bread with great interest.
