This is really needed. There is a lot of inequality and labour exploitation in china at the moment.

Now they have surpassed the west in most facets they shouldn't have to work so hard to grow anymore.

That's not really how development works. China marketized underdeveloped industries, and increases control and folds them into the public sector as they reach monopoly scale. Tech is now reaching that level in China, and thus the CPC is increasing control. The working class is constantly improving in their conditions in China, this is a factor of development, and a testement to the socialist development of China.

Conditions have been consistently improving although many workers still face long hours and far from ideal working conditions, especially in privately owned companies. Now that the living conditions for Chinese workers are among the best in the world they should no longer need to work so hard to expand there productive forces.

This is more of an ultraleft take on development. China cannot simply take it easy while the US Empire is a near-peer power. Conditions will continue to improve, and working hours will continue to lower, but the fact that they have not decided that they have "enough" and pushed a hypothetical communism button is more restricted by development than political will. China is a massive country, development takes time and energy to move even the smallest countries.

I didn't mean to say they could just half the workweek or something like that. More that they shouldn't need to work as hard now that they are on par or ahead of the US.

If anything, now is the time when the US is most likely to start something, so they need to increase the gap as much as possible. Socialist countries cannot ignore the threat of the US.

Really? I had thought the risks are diminishing now considering the chances of the US waging a successful war campaign against china being so low.

They are low, but they are also lowering. If the US wants any chance at all, it needs to strike as soon as possible, probably from the ROK or Taiwan (or a trifecta including Japan). China wins by advancing faster and faster, becoming a country that surpasses European living standards without any of the imperialism or den industrialization, while having a military the US can never hope to beat. That means they can't let off the gas for likely decades.

It's not a bad thing, though. They work ~47 hours a week on average, and their living conditions are constantly rising. I assume this number will gradually fall as well as they develop more and more. It won't likely be a button press, even if they lower the working hours legally it will still be based on objective material conditions from developed means of production.
