People forget how dangerous it is there with heavy rain, because it's mostly dry the ground is hard and doesn't absorb the rain, so it floods. Flash floods happen quickly, especially in burn scars and dry riverbeds.

Had a couple friends almost die in the flash floods a couple years ago when they got washed away into a gas station. They were lucky enough to climb on top of the pump roof cover thing until they got rescued. There was a lot of hurt people and property damage in Chaves County that day.
