I'm working on a project what requires around 1 to 2kb of data to be stored for ~80 years.

My thinking was a QR code (ECC H) etched into aluminium. Benefits being no bit rot & the assumption being cameras should still be commonplace in 80 years (And if QR isn't a commonly used format anymore, surely an AI agent could easily write an app for the user).

Does anyone have any better suggestions or think I've missed anything.

I thought about this a little bit, and there's an interesting possibility here. If you make a mold, you may be able to cast a QR code in concrete. If poured well and stored in a place that isn't completely hostile, it should last as long as you need it.

    Seems very heavy lol, adds a whole new meaning to data density. I'd be concerned about concrete chipping, but I also don't know much about concrete.

    You'd probably want to put it somewhere it isn't going to get moved a lot. There are concrete additives you can mix in to help with the strength of the finished material as well.

    I also figured that if you made your QR code so that the black sections were slightly raised, making it a working QR code could be as easy as dipping it in white paint, letting it dry, then painting the tops of the raised sections black.
