So on my bus ride to work, I go past Pentridge. There's a three storey house for lease, so I've just looked it up to have a peek, and it's $1,000 PER WEEK‽ ~$4k per MONTH‽

Who has that kind of money for rent? Wouldn't you just buy a house at that point??

I will say though, this house has an internal lift servicing all three levels. Maybe that's part of it, maintenance for the lift? Idk.

I just want to know what kind of jobs people have where they could afford that kind of rent, but not buy a house and pay a mortgage. Maybe a highly skilled, well paid working person from overseas? Where they wouldn't live in Aus permanently, but would leave eventually?

You know if you're renting the landlord ain't maintaining shit. Getting a mortgage is also contingent on being approved by a bank. They love knocking people back for loans that would have people paying less in replaymemts then they currently are in rent over concerns whether they can afford it or not

Lots of 3-4 bedroom houses going for this rate, particularly if they are new/renovated, close to transport. Affordable by a couple with 2 good incomes. I’m not even talking executive jobs, a school teacher can earn $120k, might have a tradie partner, so will have a healthy $250k joint household income. Could also be rented as a share house, affordable for 3-4 younger people.

How many bedrooms? That's a fairly standard deal if it's split over three working people's contribution.

I think it was four bedrooms in total. One on the ground floor next to the garage, and three on the top floor.

It's a bougie area too, so I guess it makes sense, that's just crazy money to me lol
