I don't think that is relevant here? People don't want to move to the US because it's got a large population.

No, but if people want to move somewhere, and you are half a continent, then the chances of that being that somewhere is higher than if your a smudge on the map. Now, if that half continent is mostly depopulated, I'd venture the chances are lower.

So comparing USA to Norway is nonsensical, but comparing it to all of Europe makes more sense.
