How do I calculate the difference over time in a area vs. diameter vs. mass of a comet as it passes through the sun? (sh.itjust.works)

Assumptions:

  • Comet content: 87% ice, 11% rocky silicate, 4% other
  • The comet is initially comparable to 4,500 hippopotami tied together with rope (not including the rope itself)
  • Nobody is watching, so (I presume) the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle is not in effect.

All 102% of the comet, 4500 hiipos long, will get swallowed whole when going through the sun.
