Wondering how long term cognitive damage from covid is, whether it is possible to fullly recover or if there will always be permanent deficits, even in relatively mild cases(but likely multiple reinfections over the years)

It's hard to tell really, but https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/nep3.70050 looks encouraging.

You don't specifically say long covid. In some cases there are short term impairments where the person recovers. IDK but anecdotally it seems to me that sometimes the person mostly recovers but keeps having occasional bouts of impairment.

I basically stopped vaccinations and wearing masks a few months after the general media and public shrugged it off, and only recently after I learnt about its mortifying consequences have I restarted precautions, and I am wondering if it had long term, or even permanent consequences. The brain can compensate for damage remarkably well, but even if in certain domains its somewhat the same aren't there nevertheless some permanent nerfs to the overall set of capabilities? Especially in my case of years of no vax/mask?

It's hard to say but there's a theory that COVID brain damage made people like Trump and Musk into even bigger jerks than they already were. See Phineas Gage for a comparison that went around. AOC has it again now and is going around spreading it for midterm campaigning. She might even run for president and end up with her finger on the button. That's no worse than Trump's, of course.

Remember too that she was actually diagnosed. Like AIDS, COVID infections often have zero symptoms for the infectee. So they go around infecting other people and having lingering vulnerability to seemingly unrelated illnesses. They never show up in the stats. The denial level is insane. Thanks, Fauci! And the rest of them too of course.

So yeah IMHO keeping up precautions is well warranted. Stay safe!
