I think that's an America only thing. Sure I'm not the most loyal McCostumer (like I'm only go there if I'm out of other options) but I've never seen one out of service here in Europe. On the other hand I've heard that McDonald's coke is better in the USA, while this side of the pond is the most watered down, flat, ass-tasting liquid one can buy legally.

There's a servicing contract thing that happens with them here, so they're probably engineered to break down often. Walk into a modern factory anywhere in this country and tell me their machines break down like that. It's absurd.

It's rather that the machines give generic errors with no useful info, requiring calling for service. And if the minimum wage workers don't follow the instructions correctly for cleaning it will fail, but won't give an error until the end of the process hours later.

They're not actually broken, it's just a cleaning process that is easy to do wrong when you don't care because you're paid pennies.

The legend behind the Coke being better at McDonald's is supposedly the ratio of syrup to carbonated water is just a hair off, it's stored cooler than mandated and the straws are (or at least used to be) wider than average straws to allow for bigger gulps.
