And for any unaware

SA can mean Sexual Assault

CP is sometimes used as an acronym for Child Rape Media but I don't think its very fitting, personally.

Another Acronym thats better is CSAM but honestly why are we even abbreviating it at all?

I thought "CP" was "Child Pornography"

It is. It's not the preferred term for that stuff anymore. But anyone who's been seeing that used as the abbreviation for all those years before they came up with CSAM is going to recognize it as that.

An acronym for "Child Rape Media" would be CRM, possibly pronounced "kerm" or "krum." Either way, it wouldn't even be the correct initialism, since those aren't even the same letters as "CP."

    it implies consent

It absolutely does not. This is what absolutely drives me fucking crazy about this, that not a single person who makes this assertion has actually looked up the definition.

CSAM is more accurate as H2O is more accurate instead of water or NaCl is for salt. Doesn't mean that you have to use it, and when the word pornography is used after the word child, everyone who is sane should know that it's wrong

Then they could have said that. That's literally not what they said.

All Child Pornography is Child Rape Media, so CP is an acronym for it.

    A difference without distinction.

Nowadays CP is deprecated since pornography implies consent, and as you have already implied kids legally can't you are right in saying that it's rape, but also it can't be pornography. Anyway, the modern term is CSAM, children sexual abuse material.

If you pretend not to understand how acronyms works in order to signal that you believe all CP is abuse, that makes it seem like maybe you don’t actually think all CP is abuse. A “the lady doth protest too much” situation.

There is nothing about consent in the definition of the term "pornography". "CP" doesn't imply thinking it is okay, and "CSAM" is for virtue-signaling losers who probably also correct "homeless" to "unhoused" because they think that's the same thing as helping.

I always just assumed CSAM was people trying to exclude illustrated kiddie porn from the definition since no sexual assault takes place.

I think the main issue is that CP kind of normalizes it and associates it with regular porn while CSAM makes it clear how bad it is.

I do mostly agree that it doesn't really matter much which is used and unhoused does annoy me a bit. It's bothersome being corrected I guess but it's nothing to get mad about either tbh.

Literally noone in the history of the world thinks that you can normalise child porn by calling it child porn. But some people, faced with the difficulty of making a real difference, seize in the only thing they feel they can control: other people's language.

The ones advocating for it are child protection agencies, not randos on the internet with no control.

I found it annoying as well at first but it's easy to get used too. I don't see the harm in it.

Because firstly, while they can talk how they like as long as it makes sense, they want to demonstrate how pure and holy they are by berating everyone not offering their edicts. And secondly because the literal meaning doesn't cover everything they want to apply it to. Drawn child porn is not "child sexual assault material" but they still want to use the same term, because for them purity tests are more important than making sense.

Nobody is labeling lolicon stuff as csam.

I think you are looking too deep into it. All I know is that experts who have made it their life's work catching predators want us to use CSAM and think it might have an effect, I'm not going to give people grief over using it.

I see it most times this comes up.

I’m not going to give people grief over using it.

Sure. But I'm not going to take grief for not using it, nor omit an eye-rolling comment when someone else gets grief.

Boy I sure hope any porn I see was consensual, else it isn't porn but an illegal rape video wtf.

I mean, yes that's what it would be if it's not consensual? Major self-report here, bud.
