Looking to learn not criticize. permalink fedilink source hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] sip@programming.dev 15 points 6 months ago (2 children) coz it's an monolithic architecture, they all get compiled in. if you don't want it, you can compile the kernel yourself, specifically for your hardware. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] neighborhoodnerd21@mastodon.social 3 points 6 months ago (1 child) @sip @panda_abyss and if i remember correctly from the last time i made a bad attempt at that lol its optional sometimes to support a driver as modular but supprt for that driver module still needs to be set during compile? if im wrong just tell me to shut up its been probably 15 or 20 years since i tried to compile my own kernel permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] sip@programming.dev 1 point 6 months ago tbf never tried compiling. Just not my cup of tea. it works OOB. I might have had a laptop that it's wifi card driver somehow got botched on a linux update, but I didn't have the knowledge back then to attempt compiling from source, let alone with a pinned driver. permalink fedilink source parent
