What is the deal with this trend?

It’s annoying af for some reason to me. I just don’t know why.

I don’t know if you’re joking or not so I will answer genuinely. It is used to circumvent censorship. Some platforms are strict with words. By obfuscating potentially black listed words it helps get the content past the filters.

I'd argue it also thereby normalizes, memetically spreads, and even to a degree enforces the very thing it means to circumvent. Damn this horseshit, forever. Not attacking you, just the self-censoring nonsense.
