I don't know what ultraprocessed foods you're sticking in your cooch to get cervical cancer, but I'm guessing there's not a lot of research on that. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Mandrilleren@feddit.dk 2 points 8 months ago I think there is just too much bad shit that we are exposed to, to find one specific reason. permalink fedilink source parent [–] jet@hackertalks.com 1 point 8 months ago Yes, the oncogenic paradox... We don't know what causes cancer... But ever source of inflammation seems to increase risk... The mitochondrial theory of cancer (Seyfried, Warburg) would say the high glucose environment people create in their blood is the core reason for the surge of modern cancers. permalink fedilink source parent [–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago (7 children) Isn’t there an effective vaccine for cervical? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 7 child comments replies: [–] Zaraki42@lemmy.ca 20 points 8 months ago (6 children) My spouse just went through cervical cancer. The vaccine that prevents it is the HPV vaccine. However, it needs to be administered before the age of 14 for it to be effective for the rest of your life. Apparently, 75% of the population has an HPV. Sooooo.... yeah. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago (2 children) It can be administered at anytime. It's usually given at 14 because most people aren't sexually active before then. If you are older, it can still help. If you are a man without contact with HPV, you could become immune. I could be wrong, but I got it at 30 even after having partners. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] MrEff@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (1 child) The HPV virus is also slowely being implicated in causing some throat, neck, and tonsillar cancers in men. The vaccine in men helps prevent those too. It is argued that everyone should get it, and the younger the better (younger as in around 14, not 20's or 30's). permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago Yeah. I got it because it was free for me and I was pretty confident I didn't have it. Seemed like a no downside thing. Better at 14, but you can still do it later permalink fedilink source parent [–] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 5 points 8 months ago (2 children) It wasn't required for millennial men to get the vaccine. It's only recently they started pushing for everyone to get it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 4 points 8 months ago (1 child) There was also a lot of scare-mongering when it was introduced. My parents' church said that HPV was punishment from god for casual sex, and the vaccine would guarantee I'd go to hell, so they didn't let me get it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago I'm sorry your parents failed you there. permalink fedilink source parent [–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago I'm surprised cervical is up, the hpv vaccine was supposed to do a number on that one permalink fedilink source parent load more comments (-1 replies)
