Welcome to the 19th writing club update, and first update of the new year! Continuing with my numerical tie-ins that no one asked for and which I refuse to give up, XIX is the number of The Sun card in the tarot deck. It's currently a blistering winter here, so a kiss of sunshine sounds lovely.

Anyway, according to Wikipedia, this card is "often seen as a sign of achievement and authentic self-expression" which sounds great for writing, so whether you put any truck in tarot, you could do worse than to head into the rest of the year with that thought.

I hope you've all had a brilliant year so far, but even if you haven't (maybe especially so) I want to hear from you. That goes for any passersby: feel free to chime in with your thoughts or writerly projects.

I've been continuing to add to the wiki but my main project this month has been a return to the TTRPG premade campaign. I finished writing bios and making character art for all the NPCs I wanted to include. This was one of the last big gaps. I've also recruited an editor friend with way more experience GMing games than me to read through and give it a proper English major edit pass. They're making some absolutely awesome edits so Ive also been going through and finalizing those.

I've got two sections that talk about bioremediation I need to do more research for, then I think we'll be basically ready to share the thing. Unfortunately I haven't heard back from the cover artist in months so I'm starting to suspect they took the down payment and dipped out, but we'll see.

TTRPGs are such a fascinating in-between of writing fiction on your own, and group activities. I don't tend to play them myself since I find writing my own novels more fulfilling, but I am constantly fascinatined by them.

They really are cool! This is actually pretty early in what I hope will be a long career in TTRPGs - my first time GMing was to test this campaign and I'd only played as a player a couple times before that. It's a fascinating mix of improv and premade narrative and it turns out I really love it. I especially love the ability to do (and include!) waaaaay more worldbuilding than can fit into a prose story. The players won't encounter all of it but it's there and they can engage with as much or as little as they want. They can talk to NPCs about their jobs, read bulletin boards in towns, research and investigate whatever they like and it's a fun thing to set up. To some extent, it never feels wasted because I'm setting this up as a guide for GMs - if I was only ever going to play the campaign through once with a single group, I'd probably do things differently.
