Megan and Grace Phelps-Roper did leave in 2012. Megan I has taken on a more prominent role in activism since leaving.

I don’t know if Kevin Smith is the reason she left, but they did frequently debate on Twitter while she was still with the church. He made a movie, Red State (2011) which upset the church so they got into it a lot online and when he toured the area.

After she left the church, he was very supportive of it. I know he interviewed on a podcast a few times, but I haven’t heard those.
