This is literally the same logic they used to eliminate all the customization options in Windows Vista...the assumption that the standard user is too stupid to use those options properly, resulting in their confusion and frustration...so they just decided to remove them, instead.

Here's the next line of the same quote...

Baca continues: "We felt that providing a discoverable setting, just one right-click away, was a more intentional and predictable experience. It’s a deliberate design decision, not a missing capability."

If they're going to include a "discoverable setting, just one right-click away"...then they can easily make one of those settings a free-placement / lock function, in addition to some suggested presets. If they think it's easier to find those settings this way...then just put them there...don't remove them.

I will never understand Windows' obsession with "dumbing down" their products, rather than scaling up their functionality. Aside from the obvious explanation, "it's just easier for us to make it this way".

I feel like you missed the point. They original design was silly. Why make something you can drag around and then get frustrated when you accidentally move it, reminding you to go back and lock it. The better solution is to not let it get dragged around. Instead, make it’s position selectable from a settings menu. This eliminates the need for a lock option while allowing customization.

"From our research, dragging the taskbar to reposition it can lead to accidental movements, which is one of the reasons “Lock the taskbar” existed in previous versions of Windows," Baca said. "We also found that changing the taskbar position isn’t something people do frequently."

These idiots completely missed the point. Why would you move it frequently? People want to be able to put it where they want it...and then lock in position, so it doesn't move anymore.

Does anyone else remember how awesome Windows XP was, just for the fact that it was so customizable? There was an option for almost anything you wanted to do. It was the last, best version of Windows, for that reason alone.

You know, I love Linux. But I'm fine with Windows as well.

How about all the Linux fanatics please fucking block this community so we don't have to read your bitching EVERY single place you post, huh? I like going to the Linux communities and discussing the nice things happening.

And there are plenty of places for you people to go and bitch about everything.

It's like a fucking religion with some of you. Or like how some of you characterize vegans. Nothing wrong with vegans, it's the one who are constantly screeeeeching about it that are the problem. And you asshats are like that. Your opinion is fine, just leave me the hell alone to use Linux AND Windows.
