Tried a demo of this game, it's actually well developed and challenging.

The micro-game is in real-time, but overall company management is turn-based. It works really well.

They even have Ukraine a scenario (it's one of the harder scenarios due to insane interests rates).

Oh, man. I loved the hell outta MoO, back in the day. Your comment is bringing back so many fond memories, thanks! 🤩

Dangit, now I gotta go dust off the ol' thing, see if it hits like it used to. I had so many things I wanted to get done today. 😜

I've never published on Steam, but from their posts/statements, devs are required to fill out a disclosure when submitting their game and that gets checked for validity (somehow). It sounds like there's a box you can check to indicate AI-generated content exists but the exact source is unclear, which yeah as you said suggests an asset pack -- agree. I would love to see them specify that in their own words; that would at least reach the minimum expectations for me.

This game contains assets that may have been generated by AI. The developer cannot precisely identify which assets are AI-generated.

Maybe AI-generated content makes a small dev's project actually realizable, but it feels inexcusable to not even be able to specify what you used it for.

Does seem like a rather interesting and well developed game. I am not a fan of the anime aesthetic in games (just a personal thing, I do actually like some anime although it tends to be mostly productions from the 80s/90s/early 2000s), but this one seems unique enough to ignore the anime visual style.

Fair point. I apologize for the glib comment. Rogue Hex is a passion project by a solo dev w/ minimal experience, and the ill-fated Daedalic Entertainment published this Civ knock-off, to be clear. ("reboot" or "spiritual successor" would imply an improvement on the original —of which there is no sign in either release)

The low-effort mimicry at the core of both titles is so thin that even La Croix would be embarrassed to claim a "flavor". While the AI-gen art is far more obvious in the former (distractingly so, down to the UI), the prepackaged, barely viable slop seems to be a gap-filling trash paste for both —if only to keep either from getting punted down to "mobile game" status, among the other gaming-experience-as-soggy-cardboard-fascade titles like them.

Publishing shite titles just to provide a sign of life to the target market is no way to assuage fears in one's fanbase, much less the unfamiliar public. Maybe they're just hanging on until some Chinese corp buys the name to obfuscate scammy phone apps with. I have no idea what they're thinking.

How do you know it leverages "vibe coding" and AI generated assets?

The Steam page does not mention use of AI and Daedalic Entertainment (the publisher) is well established, I can't see them allowing one of their development partners to lie about data that is required by Valve.

I feel you. Your statement makes me think of the biggest "call to inaction" that hasn't been effective, stop pre-ordering. It really doesn't make any sense in the age of digital media, yet all the publishers have to do is offer a week's early access or some cosmetics players will stop using in a month and people can't help themselves. Then they come into forums whining "I pre-ordered and the games literally unplayable!" Yes! Don't you remember when this happened the last umpteenth times from the same company?!?

I think gamers as a group can also tend to be forgetful and unable to stick to their principles... How many boycotts were just hot air? I feel like the Civ crowd might be different but I don't hold out much hope that people will really vote with their wallets

I agree. I'm still waiting for the first definitive edition with one expansion to arrive.

I keep saying this every Civ thread but Civ 6 on release looks like quite a different game to when you add the GS and RF expansions.

Oh and they really should hire Luigi to fix the UI.
