They own us at literally all infrastructure projects. I visited China in 2023, I went to a small rural town with a small population by China standards (less than 50k) and in my 2 weeks there I saw major road work done that legit would have taken months in my home city in the states. One of the major streets needed work (large holes, uneven, breaking sidewalk, etc etc) it was torn down in one day and rebuilt in 2/3ish, this included the road, the sidewalks, multiple light/power poles.

Nationalize the goddamn high-speed rail. Just hire the workers and oversee the construction directly rather than bidding this out. Of course, no one in government could be entrusted with the task. Fucking joke of a country and joke of a state.

And just to add insult to injury their entire high speed rail network is less than 20 years old. They had 0 miles of high speed rail in the country in 2008 and now they're at something like 2/3 of the total miles of high speed rail in the world.

  • The shitty thing really is that California so desperately needs this rail link, and yet everyone is just as corrupt as conservatives say they are. That's the worst part, that it's proving naysayers right.

Its been over 10 years and we have a few bridges and track supposedly will be starting this year. Meanwhile billions have already been spent. It should be done. Minimal we should see massive crews building it.

Awe. It doesn't look "abandoned." It looks well cared for and on display.

This is what The Goog has to say...

This is locomotive No. 152, a single-cab variant of Indian Railways Class ZDM-3 narrow-gauge diesel locomotive built for the 2'6" (762mm) narrow-gauge lines. It spent its active career operating on the famous heritage Kalka-Shimla line before being retired from regular service around 2013.

Today, this specific engine is permanently plinthed and preserved as a heritage monument outside the Ambala Cantonment railway station in Haryana, India.

The classification code ZDM breaks down as: Z: 2'6" Narrow Gauge D: Diesel power M: Mixed traffic duty (capable of hauling both passenger and freight trains).

It is a Meter Gauge track in India. Most swathes have been gauge converted towards Broad Gauge (on which rest of Indian Railways runs) but a few still persist.

It is not abandoned though with only one regular service and one special service per day, it might as well be.
