They are just stupid. They’ve got this playbook and they are following it step by step. Target an out group to rile up your base and get them focused. Except they need charismatic people working on the people and they just don’t have it. They think it’s working because their polling metrics tell them it is but their polling methods are terribly outdated and they aren’t getting an accurate slice of the people. Because if they realized, truly, how little trans rights matter to almost everybody one way or the other they would find a different target. It’s almost a cliche at this point where rich and powerful people believe their own bullshit and think themselves clever because they have money or something. They are their own worst enemy.

In the end rich people dumb shit will actually help trans people by bringing attention to their existence and their issues.

PS- don’t get me wrong here. I think trans rights matter but it is a ways down on my list of things we ought to be dealing with right now. Seems that way to most people I’ve talked to about it. It gets a big shrug from most people.

  • I don't think y'all read the article, or even the full title. The show was cancelled over concern they would violate a Texas anti-trans law, showing that those shitty laws have negative impacts even on people who are not the target of the law. This is definitely newsworthy.

This is nothing but "rah rah get mad about transgender people because youre bigots rage bait for old gulible Trump lovers in Texas."

Should this be happening to children no, but theyre in Texas in 2026 with a pedophile president so it's not surprising, why is thehill.com writing about it. It is a small case out of texas. They aren't writing about every school in the country are they? Is that their main focus as journalists? Nah, never has been.

Except there is no law prohibiting a woman being cast as a male character, but there are laws prohibiting discrimination against this cancelation on the basis of the lead being female.

If you truly believe they're doing it for preventative legal reasons, why would they just open themselves up to a guaranteed lawsuit instead of following a spirit of law that doesn't even apply to theater?

Why's everyone in this thread so up in arms about this story? I read it as a school being overly conservative in interpretation of the law, as schools have always been. They have so little funding, their risk tolerance is 0.

If anything, this story is a picture of how anti-DEI laws and initiatives are fucking up things they didn't even aim for.

Peter Pan is often played by a woman. Also who the hell cares about this? Who cares about what HS kids do? This is not journalism. Clutch your pedo-protecting pearls harder.
