I’m especially curious about the “find someone who will do it as a service” bit, though. How could I find such a person?

Really depends on where you live. Local classifieds, local p2p selling apps like offerup, facebook marketplace (gross), craigslist, word of mouth from friends/family/coworkers, asking here, or reddit (also gross). Otherwise there's plenty of sites willing to let you ship a switch to them and do it for monies.

As far as vetting anything you find, feel it out as best you can via communication and reviews. I have no recommendations for anything specific unfortunately.

Never heard of SmileBASIC before this, and after looking into it, I’m surprised Nintendo ever allowed it in the first place.

A third-party interpreter that allows users to execute arbitrary code? What could possibly go wrong!

None currently afaik. Though soldering, specially on the standard Switch, is pretty simple.

Also, beggars can't be choosers. So if the situation isn't ideal for you, either wait, or learn how to be a reverse engineer and start investigating how to mod consoles purely by software.

Is there really no way to homebrew a Mariko Switch without soldering?

    No, there isn't.

I’m extremely afraid to fuck up anything with my Switch BUT I want the free games.

So find someone who will do it as a service, or buy a V1 and sell your mariko.

How come there is no way to exploit the software like it happened with V1?

Because it was a bug, and they fixed it.

Isn’t the modding community invested in claiming another console?

Of course, but 90% of the community is going to say that modchip is "good enough" and move on.

Or is the thing that really tough to homebrew without the hardware modding?

    Yes.

So is Discord the place the place to be updated about what’s new in the Switch scene?

For Eden, yeah. Definitely. For Ryubing, no idea. I got permanently banned from their Discord for mentioning ''Steam Deck OLED'', lol. But you can usually find Eden's changelogs on their GitLab: Eden latest changelog. From the site, you can also get the latest version of Eden. So, enjoy lol.

Thanks a lot! Eden worked great actually. What community is most active nowadays as it's all shut down on reddit and so forth I'm guessing? This one doesn't seem active either. It's such a pain to find up-to-date info for this kind of stuff.

and will immediately permanently ban you if you mention Steam Deck.

I never understand communities like this.

“Hey guys, don’t mention what’s clearly on everyone’s minds when they first join. Better be as hostile as possible to anyone with that idea going in.”

They are but you can still find the last stable version of yuzu pretty easily. Fitgirl ships it with her repacks, it runs pretty much everything now. Also it can strap to vulkan render API so it's a lot more functional

Eden is unbelievable, it's simple, versatile, updated nightly and performance-wise feels like natively playing on a switch for me.

The emulation scene seems to have expanded since Nintendo attacked Yuzu+Ryujinx. There are a few projects alive and well, but I've been playing Eden exclusively because it rocka so hard.

Wow, I forgot this community existed lol.

So from what I know Eden and Ryubing are still in development and working great. I have been using both (mostly Eden though) on Steam Deck for my emulated games. Eden has a great Discord community and the main developer is very friendly and helpful, can’t say the same about Ryubing’s community. Ryubing’s Discord has a lot of hostility towards people and will immediately permanently ban you if you mention Steam Deck. As if they are pretending to be some high-ground and ‘’better than piracy’’ meanwhile everyone knows emulation is mostly catered towards piracy people.

I have got to say, I still use the old school Yuzu too. Though, that's just nostalgic and laziness on my part. Lazy to change things.
