That server upgrade is massive. I checked out zappie site and they seem cool they run their own tor exit node and sponsor another forum.

In theory no, they should both have access to the same content. Are there any examples of posts you see on PieFed but not Lemmy?

There are a bunch of reasons that come to mind. Sorting algorithms are different, for one, so you may see different posts even if the same ones are on both platforms. Secondly, PieFed has some powerful set up functions that allow you to pull communities from other instances or from the lemmyverse.net/communities list, rather than needing someone to find and subscribe. PieFed also recently scaled up it's mastodon integration, so now there's a "Microblogs" community where mastodon posts go if they weren't posted to a lemmy community, which may be content not available from Lemmy.

All good! Thought I should mention I got the cloudflare this sorted too, it was just 1am brain failing me. So we are fully off Cloudflare now, a milestone I know some people will be happy to hear.

    did the migration go smoothly?

We're on the new server! Which I guess make it a success 😅

It did take hours longer than expected. Had the database load killed by docker when it used too much memory and had to start again (this was my fault, I had a resource cap on the container that I didn't remove before trying to do such a big job). Then it still took over 2 hours just to load the database. By this time is was just after 12am.

Next I had to do the pictrs database (that manages the images), which is a lot smaller. Was starting lemmy about 12:20am. But it didn't work. Lemmy started fine, but would couldn't access it.

Another 45 mins of troubleshooting, then @MadPsyentist@lemmy.nz spotted a giant clue and then we worked out it was a conflict and got it sorted, Lemmy came up about 1:10am.

Complicating things was that I had tried moving DNS name servers but that didn't go well. We are currently on Cloudflare's DNS for that, I'll try again as soon as I can work out what the issue was. It's the last thing needed to get us fully off Cloudflare.

Awesome! I am not sure if it's the app or the server, but I have noticed recently it can take longer to load. New server looks 10x overkill, so I think we'll be good for a decade with those specs.

Thanks! For sure if there are people handing over money I'm gonna show where that goes. I'm always happy to answer questions about anything LemmyNZ anyway, I don't have anyone IRL to geek out with lol.

After I made this post there has been another about $250 contributed which is awesome! Back in the black until the next 6 months is paid for next month.
