I learned the drums! And while overall it's been a great experience, there's one side effect I'm not entirely happy with. And it's absolutely unfair that nobody warned Me about it. Completely outrageous.

When listening to music on My headphones in public, I now find Myself compelled to air drum. It's like playing the air guitar, but drumsticks. I look insane. More insane than usual, I mean. People stare at Me.

But it was a pretty good song I played along to on My invisible drums.

Anyone who's spent time in Skyrim communities knows the memes about stealth archers. But I've actually never fallen for the "temptation" other players experience towards stealth archery. In fact, I've never felt it at all!

My first Skyrim character was a spellsword who mained the Mace of Molag Bal and various spells in the offhand. That's the playstyle I naturally gravitate to. I've also played a few pure mages, especially focusing on conjuration. I once downloaded a mod to run a shop, and became a pacifistic travelling merchant. And I played a Skyrim VR game where I discovered the awesome power of swords in VR, but then quit when Winterhold was all fucked up by a broken mod.

And any time I try to use stealth archery, I just get frustrated. The bow is so annoying and clunky to use, and sneaking is slow and annoying. I usually get one shot off from stealth, and then the enemies rush Me and I switch back to good old one handed and flames. Flames, always tempting Me with that easy easy damage when I'm in a pickle.

But this time, I'm committed! I want to play a thief and do the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood. I'll use sneak, pickpocket, archery, light armour, illusion, smithing, enchanting, and alchemy. And maybe a little conjuration and destruction as a treat.

So I made a Dunmer and escaped Helgen with Ralof. I usually go with Hadvar, but I think My dark elf is a bit more selfish and less big-picture than My usual characters. She doesn't care about fighting the Dominion, she's mad at the Empire for trying to execute her!

I went to Riverwood, picked up Faendal as a follower, and used the archery training exploit. I decided to skip Whiterun for now, and agreed to go get the golden claw. I'm currently deep inside Bleak Falls Barrow, and

guys

I'm actually doing it! I'm not falling for the temptation to go spellsword! I still have flames and an iron dagger favourited, but I only used them once, against the big spider. I'm headshotting bandits and draugur and even shooting skeevers! It would be so much easier to burn or stab them, but I'm shooting em, and getting a lot of levels in archery!

Once I get paid by Lucan, My plan is to go to Whiterun, absorb Mirmulnir's soul, and then head off to Riften to join the Thieves Guild.

I'm actually fucking doing it!

A stealth archer!

Today on the bus, there was a bored toddler in a pram. Little fella was throwing things on the floor and crying a little bit because the bus isn't good for playing in. Mum was equally bored with the bus and wanted to scroll on her phone, but the kid was causing trouble because it's not old enough for a phone yet.

Luckily, I carry a green Yomega Raider at all times. I pulled it out, put it on, and started throwing sleepers. After the first couple throws, the kid was paying full attention and giggling every time it came up.

Mum got a break from the troublemaker, kiddo got to see something interesting, and I got an excuse to play with My yo-yo. Children's minds are ravenous for new experiences, they want to see something that'll make them smarter and more aware of the world. And it's not fair to put the burden of doing that solely on the parents. It's exhausting for the parents, and it narrows the kid's experiences to only what the parents and daycare can provide. Kids need to see all kinds of things to grow up smart.

So that's why I always carry a yo-yo in My bag.

And I didn't check before I shat.

Fortunately, I had one of those perfect shits where it slides out smoothly without leaving behind anything. I wiped with a paper towel from the sink, but I needn't have bothered; it came away completely clean.

Folks, today I want to tell a most terrible tale from several years ago which will undoubtedly ragebait you, for a hatred still burns in My heart to this day over these fuckshit events
Many years ago, I made an account on Paypal, Elon Musk's online bank, for the purpose of exchanging money with a trans girlthing
And it bears mentioning that at this time, I had already borne My current legal name for a span of one year and more.
Thus, I signed up for Paypal under My current and indeed preferred legal name
But Musk's hirelings were suspicious of My identity, and demanded I produce identification documents
And in My folly, I elected to produce My birth certificate
In the Constitutional Dictatorship of Charles' III's Australia, birth certificates have one's name at birth at the top, and any subsequent changes at the bottom
Thus, My papers bore both the name of My choosing, and the name which I in violent struggle slew, lest it claim Mine own life.
Subsequent to My provision of the necessary documentation, Elon Musk's company did some fucking bullshit
They changed the name on My account from My current and legal name, to My deadname
And demanded that should I wish My Paypal account not to have any unauthorised name changes, I must fill out a change of name form!
I was furious and told them that I wish no change to My account, and the reversal of the change illegitimately imposed upon Me, but they did not relent
And that's one of the many reasons I hate Elon Musk.

This is an old classic written by Richard Aronson in 1987. I hope you have fun reading it.

…Let us cast our minds back to the early days of Fantasy Role Playing, back when ye Dread Gygax was loose upon the land. Funny how humor and horror can start out so alike. Let us go still earlier (yes, it is permitted to breathe sighs of relief) to the days before Gygax (and the courts) thought that he owned FRP. In the early seventies, Ed Whitchurch ran “his game,” and one of the participants was Eric Sorenson, a veritable giant of a man. This story is essentially true: I know both Ed and Eric, and neither denies it (although Eric, for reasons that will become apparent, never repeats it either). If my telling of it does not match the actual events precisely, it is because I’ve heard it many different ways depending on how much of what type of intoxicants Ed had taken recently.

The gist of it is that Eric, well, you need a bit more about Eric, or else I won’t fill quota. Eric comes quite close to being a computer. When he games, he methodically considers each possibility before choosing his preferred option. If given time, he will invariably pick the optimum solution. It has been known to take weeks. He is otherwise in all respects a superior gamer, and I’ve spent many happy hours competing with and against him, as long as he is given enough time.

So, Eric was playing a Neutral Paladin (why should only Lawful Good religions get to have holy warriors was the thinking) in Ed’s game. He even had a holy sword, which fought well, and did all those things holy swords are supposed to do, including detect good (random die roll; it could have detected evil). He was on some lord’s lands when the following exchange occurred:

ED: You see a well groomed garden. In the middle, on a small hill, you see a gazebo.
ERIC: A gazebo? What color is it?
ED: (Pause) It’s white, Eric.
ERIC: How far away is it?
ED: About fifty yards.
ERIC: How big is it?
ED: (Pause) It’s about thirty feet across, fifteen feet high, with a pointed top.
ERIC: I use my sword to detect good on it.
ED: It’s not good, Eric. It’s a gazebo!
ERIC: (Pause) I call out to it.
ED: It won’t answer. It’s a gazebo!
ERIC: (Pause) I sheathe my sword and draw my bow and arrows. Does it respond in any way?
ED: No, Eric, it’s a gazebo!
ERIC: I shoot it with my bow (roll to hit). What happened?
ED: There is now a gazebo with an arrow sticking out of it.
ERIC: (Pause) Wasn’t it wounded?
ED: Of course not, Eric! It’s a gazebo!
ERIC: (Whimper) But that was a plus three arrow!
ED: It’s a gazebo, Eric, a gazebo! If you really want to try to destroy it, you could try to chop it with an axe, I suppose, or you could try to burn it, but I don’t know why anybody would even try. It’s a *)@#! gazebo!
ERIC: (Long pause. He has no axe or fire spells.) I run away.
ED: (Thoroughly frustrated) It’s too late. You’ve woken up the gazebo, and it catches you and eats you.
ERIC: (Reaching for his dice) Maybe I’ll roll up a fire-using mage so I can avenge my Paladin.

At this point, the increasingly amused fellow party members restored a modicum of order by explaining what a gazebo is. It is solely an afterthought, of course, but Eric is doubly lucky that the gazebo was not situated on a grassy gnoll.

My polycule recently got into Sea of Thieves!

I've had this game for years, but I never really played it, because it's much more fun with friends. Well, now I have friends to play it with. I've already got a sloop and a brigantine! But since I live in Australia and My polycule are American, I'm often alone in the afternoon, wanting to play but having no friends online.

So I hopped onto the Sea of Thieves discord. Now, My first experience on this discord was a lot of fun and very educational, but not very cozy. Three boys joined the lobby and acted like, well, boys. One of them made jokes about "oh my god it's a gamer girl!", while another put on a rural English accent and told a lot of questionable jokes. That particular boy persuaded us to sail for the Reapers (the player-killing faction), and attack another ship of players. We lost miserably, and then he went to bed for the night. Sigh... boys. My ship is covered in damage now. And then we sailed right into the middle of a ghost armada!

The next day was a lot more chill. I saw someone in LFG chat say they were getting back into the game, so I invited them aboard My sloop. When they arrived.. they sounded like a woman! They asked if I was a woman. I explained that I'm nonbinary trans, and we shared a bit of mutual grieving over the state of the man community. Then we set sail and found a bunch of treasure!

The day after that, I didn't go to the Sea of Thieves discord, or any other LFG group. I played with My new friend. She's nice, and we understand each other, and we have fun doing the same sorts of things. We don't need the pub lobbies anymore. We'd rather play with each other, than put up with boys doing boy things.

I think I know why there's this culture that video games and tabletop games are a "boy thing", and all the public spaces are full of boys. I noticed the same thing years ago when I ran a tabletop RPG for a bunch of girls from the quadball club. It's that the boys who need to go to these LFG spaces aren't very good at making friends, and women don't want to be around them. They'd rather just play with friends.

There are millions of "gamer girls" out there. And they're having a great time playing with their friends.

My girlfriend has a lot of trouble with talking, and the rest of our polycule has a lot of trouble with hearing her. Me and My partner have autism, so bad audio actually hurts us, as our brains spend way too much energy trying to interpret noisy signals and give us headaches. So we really really don't like My girlfriend's speech problems.

Well yesterday her headmate was fiddling with the mic, struggling to be heard better. One of the downsides of living in someone else's head is, you have to put up with their disabilities. So My girlfriend's headmate was fiddling with the mic, and tried plugging it into the computer different. And wouldn't you know it, her voice suddenly got WAY clearer, and listening to her stopped hurting!

Me and My girlfriend have the same model mic, and this is what the plug looks like:

image

As you can see, there's a hole in the stand, right in front of the socket. Here's that hole from another angle (It's a slightly different version but the hole is pretty much the same):

image

My girlfriend spent the past two years with her mic plugged in, not through that hole, but jammed in from the side, with the cable bent against the stand. And THAT'S why it sounded like crap and caused us daily pain.

Check your audio cables, folks. Plug them in the right way. Learn how to run cables in a way that doesn't hurt autistic folk.

I went to the music shop the other day, looking for a drum stool.

The first place I went to was a family owned business. It was pretty cramped, but stocked to the gills with weird instruments! I asked the salesfolk about drum stools, and the guy went and got one out of storage and was really nice, showing interest in My drumming, talking about genres and techniques.

Then I went to a bigger place down the road. They had TONS of instruments, cool metal music playing, and like 4 people sitting at different registers for the different instrument sections. And a lot of super cool drum kits sitting on the floor, just begging to be played. I asked the drum seller the same question, and he asked what price I'm looking for. I said I wanted something under 100, and he was like "Well, I'm afraid the best I can do you for under 100 is this one, sorry", and it was the same damn stool. And they were asking for 20 more bucks for it than the first one!

So I went back to the first shop and bought the stool from them. And this morning I was on youtube watching a video by this guy I like, The Drum Thing, whose opinions on drumming I really respect. And wouldn't you know it, he's sitting on the same damn stool I bought!

So yeah, support family businesses. They give you better service and better deals. Don't fall for the pizazz of the fancy shops

ProZD has this new video about how he voiced Abby Saja in KPop Demon Hunters, and the joke is that he can't sing Soda Pop, because he didn't do the singing voice. He doesn't even know the right words.

So I decided to perform his terrible version of the song on My drums! Anyway, here it is: https://pastewaves.com/player/d048d93e-8e33-4bc5-b22d-061ac0af14d8

I work for an afterschool program that takes care of kids from two to six in the evening. My kiddo therefore gets to attend for free. It's a pretty good deal.

Occasionally, my child will run up to me on the verge of tears and tell me something like ,"DAD MY FRIENDS SAID I DONT KNOW KARATE". My child has never attended karate in their life. I am a bit flabbergasted at this but I am able to mumble out ,"did you show them you can do karate?"

Now , I am aware I have made a mistake. it's not enough to just do some kicks and jumps and say HAIIII-YAAA at a tree. My kid needs to demonstrate her lack of karate ON people. So that was a fun conversation on the way home.

Another kid (I'll call him big-Gus) was physically and mentally UNABLE to break away from construction toys. To the point where we would announce snack and Big-Gus wouldn't acknowledge us at all. Then later he would sit and cry at us saying he was hungry.

So I had to change how the toys were brought out so he couldn't get any until he ate something. Big-Gus Also loved rockets and space and would ramble on and on about space facts that were 100% not true. But he was entertaining to listen to.

Anyway, kids be crazy.

Yesterday I was hanging out in voice call with My sharkplane. I was feeling musical, so I hooked up the drums to discord and started playing the Ben 10 theme. I've been watching a lot of Ben 10 lately and it's a great song to practice with.

So I get to the end of the first verse, and My beloved interrupts. "Hang on, what. What's going on?" I stop playing and ask, "Huh, Ivy? I'm playing Ben 10."

And Ivy says, "You're drumming and singing at the same time! How are You DOING THAT!? When did this happen!?" And I say "Oh, now I guess. This is My first time drumming and singing at the same time."

I got these drums two months ago and started learning to play then, so I guess I'm making good progress with them!

I visited a Pentecostal church a few weeks ago, and I didn't like what I saw.

My only other experience in a church in My whole life, was attending an old-school Catholic service for a relative's baptism. That Catholic church was formal, stuffy, and full of latin singing from little books. So I was surprised when I arrived in the Pentecostal church and heard awesome rock drumming from outside. And I was excited to learn what the new style of Christians are up to.

I actually arrived in the church through the back entrance. See, the church was positioned in between the main road and the carpark, and the front faced towards the carpark. I took the bus, so I walked from the main road to the Church, and naturally came in through the back. All that spectacle they were pointing at new visitors, and I saw it backwards. That's thanks to car dependent architectural design, which I consider a sin.

Anyway, I came in and looked around, and they had some cool stuff. A cafe, and a couple of arcade machines, free to use. I shot some hoops into the basketball machine and had fun! But they also had these TV screens and pamphlets, advertising this upcoming "miracle offering", which from what I gathered, is a yearly event where people give lots of money to the church. So there's some greed, the second sin I saw that evening.

After that I followed the sound of the drumming into the auditorium, which was set up like a modern theatre, all black walls, big fancy stage, full music and light setup. A preacher was doing some pre-service hype preaching and riling up the crowd, they were cheering. See, Pentecostals put a lot of emphasis on being "moved by the holy spirit". To them, it's all about putting your brain in a state of spiritual ecstasy. So their preacher, rather than teaching lessons in ethics or spiritual fulfillment, was getting them excited and encouraging them to abandon their senses to, uh... well, basically it was like a rave.

I head back out of the auditorium to wait for the acquaintance who invited Me, and chat with the people in the lobby area. I get into a bit of a theological discussion with some other acquaintances, fun casual stuff, and the strangest thing happens. A lady with a big smile comes and interrupts us in the middle of our theological discussion to say hi, tell Me her name, and ask for My name. I say hi and give My name, and she just nods and walks off. She interrupted an interesting conversation for a hi and a name. And I gathered this was completely normal in this environment. Substance discouraged, the superficial appearance of connecting with each other encouraged.

Anyway, the guy who invited Me arrives, and he offers to drive Me home afterwards. I share My preference for the bus, and frame the issue in terms of Christianity. I say Elohim gave the earth to humanity to care for, and polluting with engine exhaust ain't what he had in mind. This guy retorts that Elohim put the oil in the ground for us. I counter with a reference to the Problem of Evil and posit that the oil is there so we have the free will to sin if we want. He switches tactics, and instead says that his car produces less carbon dioxide than the bus does, because it "has eco". And we argue about that until the service starts.

When the service begins, it is LOUD. They've got the volume turned all the way up, I'm talking proper rave conditions. I have autism and I cannot be in that auditorium. So we wait in the lobby for the song to end and the parts I can attend to begin. Third sin: Lack of accessibility for the disabled.

And finally, earplugs in My ears, I head in and prepare Myself for My first experience of the church service. But first, ads! The Miracle Offering is coming up, and I apparently may be moved by the holy spirit to donate money (greed). Also, the church is one of the fastest growing in the world (pride, fourth sin)! And they've recently started opening missions in Nairobi! Crowd goes wild with screaming, yay Nairobi! Yay missions! I complain about the ads to My contact, but he says it's "just the news".

FINALLY, TV time is over and it's time for a preacher to preach to us about Christianity. Oh boy, here's the good stuff! Theology, metaphysics, I hope. This guy's some visiting preacher from America, and he's gone to the effort of learning some jokes to tell about our local neighbourhoods! Later I turn around in My seat and see that they've got those neighbourhoods' names up on a teleprompter so he can just tell generic jokes and ad lib in the local place names without any effort.

But then! Then! He tells a story, and he says the story is gonna teach us about Jesus! YES! This is church, alright, Jesus story!

And the story he tells is something I looked up quite a while later, it's kind of famous, it's the Rag Man story. And I'm not gonna repeat the whole thing, I'll just give you the quick version. There's this guy in New York who trades rags. He takes people's old rags and gives them new ones. In the story, he visits three people: A crying woman, a girl with a head wound, and a one-armed man. He trades their handkerchief, bandages, and jacket for his, and when he does, he takes on their maladies, until at the end he's a bleeding crying one-armed mess.

Now, in the version of the story I found online, the rag man dies of these afflictions, and then rises from the dead unharmed. You know, like Jesus. But this preacher forgot to tell the end of the story. He moves on from that story, with the crowd cheering and experiencing the holy spirit's ecstasy like they're high on all his bullshit, without the part where the rag man died and is reborn. So when I took the bus home from the church service, I was thinking "Gee, Jesus is like a man who takes on others' maladies and then just goes on with his life? Christians are so selfish! You shouldn't enable a person with such self-destructive urges. If it's an emergency then yeah, pray to Jesus. But if you have the strength to heal your own wounds, do that instead of crippling the Jeebus man!"

So yeah, I don't think you're supposed to go to a Pentecostal church with your brain turned on. I say get drunk and pop some pills if you wanna have a good time. Everyone there seemed to be really happy at Rave Church.

Oh, and I learned how to perform a swell from that church drummer. I'm just starting out as a drummer and it's good to see an expert at work. Church musicians are professionals, I do recommend church if you want to learn about music.
