I hope it's okay to respond to an old post.
Bandai Namco still makes a product called "Vital Hero" that is basically what you are looking for. I've seen them for about $14-$20 USD on Amazon.

Ah, I had assumed that the screen on it actually was a touchscreen. Does it recognize playlists? I usually create playlists and then have the playlist play in random order, just to avoid having to navigate my music library. Even with a touchscreen, it still isn't that convenient to scroll through a long list.
Nice! How do you like it? Those look so cool, but I already have a DAP and I don't want to buy another just for the sake of having another one.
That's cool as hell. Did you make that or purchase?
I’ve almost filled my 256 card too. Enjoy!
I have the same one and I really like it! How many albums have you on it so far?
I like the cassette animation too. I enabled the album art display for a while but went back to the animation instead in the end.
It can display lyrics too.
Nono, this is the Fiio Snowsky Echo Mini - a tiny cheap mp3 player with a retro style. I have one, it's around 60$-70$
It seems to be that thing: https://www.androidcentral.com/accessories/audio/fiio-m21-this-digital-audio-player-is-uniquely-brilliant
$300, way too expensive though.
Kick it like it's 2007
what is this?
It’s fine. =)
Downvotes don’t mean anything at the end of the day and I’m glad to learn something new. I didn’t know someone out there made music players in the form factor of an iPod after all.
Sorry, I probably could have specified it was a clone and saved you the down votes 😅. I only recognized it cause I was chatting with someone in another thread on this comm and they told me about it, and I noticed the icon on the top of the click wheel being difference from the iPod (I'm a ui nerd so I like really enjoy interfaces, hardware or software)
Anyway, hope you have a lovely day :)
Yes, this is the right answer. Just a recommendation, when buying verify that the seller is a a validated one (there are a lot of clones online). Also, if possible, verify that it's a type A device. Mine is a type B that runs on an older firmware version,so I can't install atm rockbox. The stock firmware is ok, but rockbox is what truly will make this device a beast. Absolutely recommended. I own several modded classics and other ipods. The Y1 is a great affordable option that allows great customization. Go for it!
Awesome mod and case!!!
Yes they do but they convert the format to the apple native one for HiRes files (ALAC or AAC). You just need a software that does the trick. Like WALTR PRO. highly recommended for FLAC on stock OS
This was the restaurant at the top of the Mont Blanc. No vehicle this time!
Excellent headphone choice.
I was browsing via all and didn’t really notice the community. I thought someone was trying to identify a device and tried to provide information, but apparently it was a device that looked similar to the iPod instead of the iPod itself.
The iPod is something I still remember being sold everywhere back when I was still a kid, so it stuck in my memory.
I stand corrected. My apologies.
A clone, could be an Innioasis
I ended up getting the Manta too. Love it for the same reasons. Does exactly what I want and no more.
I was irritated that the kindle app broke but didn’t take long to find an alternative that’s way cheaper.
I also wish there was an easy way to send articles from the internet to the Manta for reading. As is, you can just send the link text and need to do too much to read it
I have their Manta. It's pretty great. Writing feel is superb, the clarity and sharpness of the display is excellent, it's android so sideload whatever you want, battery life is insanely good.
My only complaints are a lack of on-device encryption, and the undo gesture takes just a tiny bit too much effort.
Innioasis Y1.
You can install Rockbox on it to make it "better" (subjective I guess) or keep it stock and still use it.
One of the reasons I installed Rockbox on mine are for the themes. I can share a photo to those interested to see what it looks like. Links to everything below!
Innioasis Y1 (they've increased the price since I got mine, was $50 a few months ago)
Innioasis Y1 Updater (used to install the Rockbox firmware, or update the normal firmware. NOTE: You can use both the original firmware AND the Rockbox firmware for a "best of both worlds" scenario!)
Innioasis Y1 Rockbox Themes (I believe this is the git that I got all my themes from, but if it isn't I can provide the actual one later when I am home!)
Battery has been good for me, personally, with Rockbox and a sick ass theme (the Snowoasis Y1 DARK theme). I've got ~5000 songs on it, and it's only taken up ~45GB of space!
