I beat Mushihimesama on the hardest difficulty, Ultra, on my first full run. Let me explain the route to get through the game and beat one of the most absurd True Last Bosses in shmups.

An incredible run by PAN, here!

Exzisus is a shooting game released by TAITO in 1987.

Control Cosmo Fighter Robin and defeat the mysterious army infesting the 4th Galaxy using your blaster and missiles.

Each item collected powers Robin up, allowing it to transform into Turbo Jet mode or summon bird and dog animal robots to support you in attack.

Aim for the weak parts of the giant robots waiting at the end of each stage.

It's a good looking game for 1987!

According to SteamDB, several changes were made to Caladrius 2/Dark Element’s Steam page before it was taken down. This included removing several mature content descriptors and tags, such as “Frequent Nudity or Sexual Content” and “General Mature Content” (this also applied to the game’s DLC). The game’s restrictions in Saudi Arabia, Germany, and China were removed as well. The store name, release date, and description were the last to be deleted, making it impossible to view the Steam page.

Originally released in arcades in 1989, the pre-Neo Geo game is, for the most part, a horizontally scrolling shooter that lets players explore five different environments in and around Greenhell Island, the game's mysterious setting that has been frozen in time. This includes verdant forests patrolled by angry cavemen, pterodactyl-infested skies, deadly caves, shark-infested oceans, and the island's volcanic core.

We need more dinosaur-themed shmups, I think!

Heh, I wouldn't mind a Truxton "skull bomb" t-shirt.

Cotton Reboot! High Tension! builds on Cotton Reboot!’s fundamentals while providing enough innovation to justify another outing. Enemy capture gives you new offensive possibilities, while Over Tension raises the stakes for score chasers. The visual commotion can be difficult to read if you’re not accustomed to the chaos that modern shooters cultivate. But that’s the kind of spectacle that makes modern shooters electrifying. Apparently, success is something you can mess with, as long as you bring enough Willow with you.

It is an unusual premise for a shooter: a pilot whose whole mission is to make barren ground fertile again.

It's already out on other platforms, check your local listings if you're interested!

I've only played the PS1 versions of Raiden via emulation of course, but I liked them well enough. Raiden is super old-school hard though.

LookingForPants dropped two new episodes of his podcast this week, speaking with Aktane and Jermanator!

2 hours and 50 minutes of shmup talk...

I like all the different shmup podcasts, but I really enjoy when Pants drops a new episode more than the others.

Thundercade is a shooting game released by SETA in 1987.

As a member of the special forces, use a high-speed motorcycle equipped with machine guns to reach the enemy stronghold.

Destroying structures such as buildings will reveal power-up items in the form of sidecars equipped with gun barrels. Sidecars come in various types some fire bullets further, while others can only shoot sideways so choose the right one for each situation!

Destroy the enemy and infiltrate the base! “STINGER” is a shooter released by SEIBU KAIHATSU in 1983. Take control of the “STINGER WOLF” and head to the center of an enemy base where evil life forms roam.

In an emergency, you can call on the friendly robot “BONGO” to automatically destroy the enemy.

Interesting historical artifact. It has a vertical screen orientation, but it scrolls horizontally. Kind of a weird perspective too, as the ground makes it look a little like Zaxxon, but movement is flat.

In this video I will go over my approach, for working towards getting a 1CC, in a shoot-em’up. This will be based on the game I am currently actively playing and practising; Giga Wing from 1999 by Takumi.

Hoping it will help people that are looking to get into the shoot-em’up genre, or that have just started their journey, but are otherwise intimidated by its difficulty, its reputation, feeling overwhelmed, or don't know how to progress and improve.
