Thank you! The Halloween one was fairly difficult to transfer correctly and there's a few smudges on it. But the smudges kinda go with the Halloween theme so it worked out.

My wife did a much better job with the scalloped edges on her Thanksgiving bowl. I ended up just having fun and messing with the edges too much on my Halloween one haha.

    These are amazing!

I've never used silkscreened transfers. It looks like a really challenging place to apply them.

I hope everyone who sees this can understand just how finicky slab building is. It's really hard to avoid cracks especially with those scalloped edges. You did an amazing job.

Just wait until you see the glaze on doughnuts! Jokey joke

I think personally my favorite project was combining brown and white clay to make a teapot; It basically looked like a vanilla chocolate swirl. I guess it's not something you're recommended to do your first class lol

I was so intrigued yet confused by the shrek ear part but I think I understand that you are talking about something like this?

I have no idea of the history of the two forms and if they are related or independent but I think it's cool as hell that there is a traditional teapot form that has a similar handle:

The japanese ones tend to be a bit more Shrek like than the chinese, in case you are looking to optimize the Shrek-ness.

I think the focus makes it look wonky (as in, not smooth) but the shape was an intentional choice. It is based on an (inaccurate) memory of a mug by Edith Heath, with the handle set low in the mug. I read that the design was to allow the user to hold a cigarette in the same hand more easily. Turns out that's a myth and I don't smoke anyways, but I wanted to experiment with handle shapes and see how it impacted the use of the vessel. In her design, the top of the handle curves downwards:

Her mugs are cast, not sure about the handles but the handles are not cast in place. Mine was thrown, with a pulled handle.

Turns out I posted it earlier . I don't hate the form, I just hate the glaze.

"Is that a scoring tool in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?" "No, I am now bleeding from multiple puncture wounds, please fetch the first aid kit."

My sympathies as a fellow thing fiddler who's learnt the hard way not to.

I'm sorry no-one else has pitched-in, on this one: it's an interesting question!

I'm wired fundamentally-differently than you are: for me the fundamental motivation is functional ( I've no means of doing pottery presently, but there was some wonderful, simple, Japanese stoneware I'd love to replicate, & .. OMG, Japanese porcelain can be gorgeous .. )

& the artistic is the inspiration/magic which the finished-work is embodying..

I can kinda understand your partner's "for that someone, that is needed" thing..

but making something for someone else means that one is answering a need in them, so it's .. kinda functional .. emotionally-functional, or something?

It's still got to be "functional", for me to have any motivation to make it, though..

even commenting on stuff: what's worth more than keen insights?

They weigh nothing, you can have scads of the things, & the more people who have good ones, the richer EVERYBODY is, together..

    Functional, see?

Making the world happier is functional.

Making the world healthier is functional.

& other people find that making the world more hopeless is what they mean, or more suffering ( actual-sadism is a real force, as this world demonstrates )..

The nature of the motivation and the domain in which the motivation works & the frame-of-reference-of-the-motivation seem to decide it all..

    You want a particular distortion-of-sentience, I want a particular distinctly-different distortion-of-sentience, in the ones among the resultant-world..

but it's still an expression of one's meaning, right?

( also, we have to keep in mind that people change: someone can suddenly have had enough of a particular motivation, dropping it & moving-on.. that too is natural )
