A West Easton man claims he was fired from his job as a preschool teacher because he’s transgender.

Drew Zelikman’s co-workers at the Goddard School in Upper Saucon Township found out he was transgender when he got pregnant, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court.

After that, they treated him coldly, the lawsuit says. He went on leave to have the baby and wasn’t invited back to teach, the lawsuit says.

Two Lancaster County school districts will vote Oct. 19 on whether to implement policies preventing transgender athletes from participating on sports teams that align with their gender identity, which would raise the number of county school districts with similar policies to five.

The final votes come after the Conestoga Valley and Elanco school boards approved first readings of their policies last month. The boards introduced the policies in August and September, respectively.
