I had no idea Berke had a patreon.

Yeah, if you subscribe to his Patreon (for $3/month) you get access to some drawings Watterson (of Calvin and Hobbes) sent him, at least one of which mocks Breathed for selling merchandise so he could buy another speedboat.
Apparently they're great friends.
Breathed has a penchant for speed boats.
I had no idea about that.
Breathed has a penchant for speed boats. I just made the connection between that and Opus' comment. Lol
if you think about it isn't running nekkid through the autumn bluebells going THBBFT just one way of being loved?
I think we all could use more running nekkid through the Autumn Bluebells going THBBFT in our lives.
I bet he didn't expect that joke to still be relevant 36 years later
I remember this one, i had just started high school and was over the Simpsons already. It has always given me a good chuckle.
ack pbthh
I remember we bought the paper from a guy on the street, after church. forcing myself to read bs news articles all day, then all the crap Sunday pages and editorials, just to get to Outland, and I didn't get it, and I still don't have a clue.
Commence to pickling.
I think it is a general dread kind of thing and not referencing anything in particular. I looked over notable events of January 1990 and December 1989, and the only thing that really stood out was the December 1989 US invasion of Panama.
I'm also curious. My initial take was standard US militarized overreaction to minor slights. Iraq didn't invade Kuwait until August 1990, so it's not that. But this Outland sure is apropos now!
It wouldn't be the first reference to library books from Breathed.

Is there some context for this? I'm sure something's being lampooned, but I can't think of what.
Deborah Anne Norville (born August 8, 1958) is an American television journalist and businesswoman. Norville is a former anchor of Inside Edition, a syndicated television news magazine, a position she held from March 6, 1995 to May 21, 2025. She markets and sells a line of yarns (Deborah Norville Collection) for knit and crochet enthusiasts, manufactured by Premier Yarns. Previously, she was an anchor and correspondent for CBS News and earlier co-host of Today on NBC. Her book Thank You Power was a New York Times best-seller.
Margaret Jane Pauley (born October 31, 1950) is an American television host and author, active in news reporting since 1972. She first became widely known as Barbara Walters's successor on the NBC morning show Today, beginning at the age of 25, where she was a co-anchor from 1976 to 1989, at first with Tom Brokaw, and later with Bryant Gumbel; for a short while in the late 1980s she and Gumbel worked with Deborah Norville. In 1989, with her job apparently threatened by Norville's addition to the program, she asked to be released from her contract, but her request was denied.
oh no worries, i've saved a no commercials version on my copy of the playlist with a note to propose it
I will post it earlier next year to remind everyone. It is also available on DVD, and there are versions on YouTube without the original commercials.
i'm far too late to submit this as a proposal to my online friendgroup's nearly 12-hour long annual viewing of christmas specials of varying quality, but i'm holding onto it for next year
Okay, that's disturbing.

Very familiar sounding
Really all I remember of Bush and Quayle was potatoe and no new taxes/thousand points of light. And invading the Middle East.

Anyone remember Bush n Quayle?
I got hazy memories.
Iraq war, the whole Iran Contra crew directing international affairs. Drafting of NAFTA.
Austerity in exchange for... What was promised to be tax breaks but was something else, right? I wasn't in tune with politics back then
